Just remembered I use one of the pistons bought for these on the 1978 rear caliper when I detailed the swing arm, wheel, and brake. Another is ordered up. Be a few days before I get these rebuilt.

Thanks for the playing Biff to my Mcfly and knocking me on the head. Your right this is a factory restoration. Ditching the polished forks. I’m going to clean up the dings and scratches on the other set I have and send them for vapor hone.

Nice work Matt, Did you think at all of putting your painted brake parts in the oven to cure? I always put heads, blocks and brake parts in the oven on low for an hour. I like 250° Turn off oven and let them sit till cool.
And have you though about DOT 5 silicone brake fluid? Does not eat paint.
And I sent you a damper assembly out Friday with 1 st class mail postage. Did not get track # with that.

I have a side cover coming from Mike in Nebraska. I sent him a pre-paid priority label! Mike did his part great!! Thanks Mike. Last scan was on the 8th. It does say late and behind and in transit on website. But, 9 days? for a 2 pound box?? Wait till the next post office increase for priority mail next year!

I wish those lower legs were here! I can do a nice finish on them. I never did a resto, mine were always highly polished. You should strip the clear lacquer off of them. It will help the next process. I use a spray can of stripper, eats that residue right away.

Keep up the good work. I have another KZ strip beater bike to clean up now! Had ugly spray can paint on everything. I am going to paint the lowers and calipers with real black paint, along with a suzuki GS 1100 swingarm and a set of struts! All black! BBM Black Bikes Matter!

Thanks, did consider curing the calipers in the over but I didn’t know the temp and time length. I used VHT Caliper paint, is your suggested temp and time good for that paint on aluminum parts?

Funny you mentioned the post office, the tracking numbers are useless. You constantly check it and it says that it’s running late and should arrive. Great should arrive, not a warm fuzzy feeling. Than after days, 15 in my case for return parts from NY to Michigan, the part just shows up. That tracking numbers are useless.

Be careful what you wish for, these lower fork tube are only a shipping label away.

I love BBM. I just sent Skidmark a PM stating black engines matter. He didn’t reply hope I didn’t upset him. But if you know me I’ve been using that for everything as a joke. I work construction and when the landscaping is done I text photos to my office with the comment. Green lawns matter. When the drywall is roughed in I say white walls matter.

On the USPS, my new VIN decal was in a normal envelope (like a letter) - nothing special - and the tracking said it was in the Santa Ana, CA sorting warehouse for 8 days. a simple envelope sat for EIGHT DAYS without going anywhere! GRRRRRR!

Just heard the USPS has lost 78 billion in the last ten or so years. Nice our money is so well cared for. I’m down to getting mail every other day at best. Sometimes it’s 3 days between drops.
