Dutch 1977 Z1000 Build

Ordered all the parts and picking it up next week.
Will start to take it apart this week :pinch:

Took the carbs apart...again :pinch:
Found this..



Clip loose from nr4 and from both nr 3 and 4carb, position 3 from the needle worn out so the clip did not stay in anymore.
Put them all 1 lower/richer and hope this solves my problem.


It will be a couple of weeks before I know for sure.
Ordered new head gasket but could not be delivered in time in my hotel so I had to find one local.
Supplier told me the "COMETIC8018" would be to large for my stock bike so he suggests a Wiseco for 70mm bore.
Sounds OK only that one is twice the price
Start taking it apart next week to have a look what the damage is and for the right size gasket.
In the meantime some small jobs like painting the front wheel black and tiding up the wiring loom.

Also ordered some parts with Z1 enterprises and got some great service from Ethan.
Nice to know that there are shops out there with excellent service.

Almost done with part 1
(Riding it this summered finding out what to improve)
Part 2 will be taking it apart next winter for powder coating and painting.

Only thing I need to fix first is head gasket but could not resist putting it together for a test drive

Only thing missing is the hugger because I still have to make the brackets for it.


Test drive went great.
Placing the needle one size down almost solved the problem, a light stutter around 4000 rpm but everything else is super
I have to be careful with all the new fabrications but until now it feels very stable.
Some strange rattles from which one is the chain hitting the rear fender.

Also measured the ride hight and now figuring out how to setup the Ohlings and front suspension.

Just collected some gaskets but kinda busy with work next two weeks.

I am proud of myself
Never thought that I dare to do it but after encouragement from you guys I did take it apart..


No problems dismantling, no broken bolts or cracks in the cylinders.
Only thing worn are 3 small cam chain sprockets.

But these are the most expensive parts of the whole bike :pinch:




There are 2 types of replacements, the expensive non damping Liska and the insane expensive Kawasaki sprocket.
I am reading that the Liska are making a bit more noise.
Anyone has these installed and can confirm?
And also, are these 3 sprockets the same size?

Did a simple valve clearance check (smallest feeler I have are 0.05 and 0.1mm but these are the tolerances according the manual)
Nr1, 3 and 4 are within these tolerances but in Nr 2 exhaust I could not put in the 0.05mm and the intake was wider than 0.1mm.
I will buy better tools and when everything is put back together I will measure again.
