Wow, nearly two years since I finished the Kiwi Z1R! Thought it was time for an update lol  . Here she is in all her beautiful glory.......................

Quick update on where the bike is at now. Carbs drove me nuts trying to get them to run right so I packed a wobbly and bought a set of Mikuni RS34's. Soooo good! Bike ran like a dream. Yes, not good. The past tense gave it away. A nasty rattly noise appeared a few months back and when I pulled the head I was greeted with the site of a cracked shim. Further inspection revealed a stuck valve. Still to get to the bottom of it but in the mean time I am putting back together another head to get the old girl going again. Bonus (well I suppose you could call it a bonus) is that while she is stuck on the bench I have no excuse not to fix all the little things that I was studiously ignoring while it was running. The rear caliper was weeping around the banjo bolt. Not good so I rebuilt another rear caliper and replaced it. Remember the horrible looking back brake master cylinder bowl. I found a really nice replacement so that has been sorted out too. Now I just have to put the head back together and back in action. Oh, did I mention I dropped the cam chain tensioner dampers into the engine...........................

Nice carbs, but what the h… with that shim?? Was that a factory shim or was it an aftermarket one?

Engine is back in the process of being rebuilt and another head is not too far from being fitted. I had the second head vapour blasted and gave it a good post vapour blast rinse in the dish washer. Don't tell my missus lol. 

Also got the new (old) rear caliper refurbished. New pistons, seals, and paint. All fitted now and no leaky weird stuff going on. Bonus.

While the Z1R has been in bits I have spent too much time lurking on the internet and decided that I really needed a new swingarm. Next thing................who would know it but a deposit has been put on new Metmachex. Only bummer is having to wait for six to eight months.
