Looks good. Try heat gun or hair dryer on the tops and tap on the sides (without screws of course) and see if they'll budge. I think there is only one ball. It's in the main carb and the injector circuit goes from there.

Damn sucks about the epoxy, never fail to be amazed by what PO's do sometimes... ugh. I agree with Steve though, heat gun/hair dryer on highest settings then light rapping on the sides of it. Best of luck man and glad that the small ball wasn't for the choke slide sounds like you know where it goes now. ;)

Thankyou gentlemen. The heat gun did the trick to pop the carb tops with mild persuasion from a mallet. The carbs are unganged and soaking. The slide where also varnished up. I have the slides out and will soak then after the carb bodies are done. I probable should pull the needles. There is varnish and scale all over the inner slide and inside bottoms. I stopped with small part disassembly for today. Questions. 1. These carbs are joined with fittings not O-rings on stems as I was expecting. Some are worn all are shellacked. There are no orings to replace so I assume I need to replace the worn out ones and clean the usable ones? Will check parts list. The choke slides are out and soaking. The rubber there were leaking and cruddy, more parts.I did not put any plastics into the chemdip. Anyway also to busy for pics, but if fishing is short tomorrow I'll be back at it. Also have to turn carb bodies and submerge two remaining carbs as the gallon jug only fits two at a time. Again thanks for the heat tip Steve. R

Moving right along. B) The slides have a clear coating on them I'd check them and clean them by hand.

The slide are good, not wear or scratches. I'll just hit em spray then instead soak. They were gummy and slow to return but no binding. i suppose some hot tem grease on the fitting would be a good idea? There are no replacements except perhaps Ebay. It is hard to tell if they will leak as the thing has run in 10+ years. R

JetsRus should have them and I think I saw some at Z1E. They often swell up once fuel is in them.

Well I ordered for the tops as there were none. The bowl gaskets came of intact with a pick. I soaked them and they seem fine. Three Bond written on them. I went thru the petcock and it is working. Very varnished may be temporary. The tank was bone clean but there was some nasty gas in it at the bottom. I flushed it out. Need a filter. I may get a startup try sometime next week. Tires hold air and have tread but they are at least 10years old. No dry rot though. Battery is completely roached, wouldn't draw any amps on the `charger. I need some pieces for the headlight and front turns. That will have to wait. 25th wedding anniversary vacation last week of the month. Igotta keep some cash for that  R

I have a Vetter headlight. It works well. Try some grease on the gaskets. Got to roll it up for the night. TTYL

Nice project there, wish I could find another that is in the right price, even old heaps go for over £1000 over here, and they are old bikes sent from over your side of the pond. I see the 550 still hiding in your man cave :)
