Gave up on using the original guard as the 19" guard on the new 17" wheel wasn't doing it for me. Had to have it looking just right so I bought a guard from a zrx1100. Arrived today from the USA, would have been waiting for years to find a second hand one in New Zealand so ebay sorted that problem out. Just need to make some mounting brackets and we are good to go.

A couple of squared U shape aluminum upside down brackets should do the trick. Looks nice. B)

Slowly but surely something is taking place...............ok really slowly but we now have rear wheel bearings that have the correct centres to take the ZZR1100 axle. Funnily enough the bearings are standard rear wheel bearings that I had as a spare for my KZP. Bearings had a spell next to the peas to contract a bit and in we go with the new crush tube. Job's done! We now have a rolling chasis! I won't finish fitting the rear wheel with spacers and brake caliper bracket until the engine is in so I can line the sprockets up correctly. With the rolling chasis done we can tick off new forks, clamps, front calipers, swingarm, shock, and rear wheel as fitted which means I can now pull it all to bits again and get the rims, frame, suspension parts coated/painted.

Nice job Larrikin, having a rolling chassis makes things so much easier plus it is really really great to feel the progress that comes with a rolling chassis! Congrats again and the bike is really coming together nicely ;)

Hi guys!!! You are probably wondering why this thread has popped back up at the top of the forum. Well................................funny story. Having sold the Kiwi GPZ project in a fit of needing cash to finish my Z1R I have regretted it ever since. Yes, sellers remorse hit hard and I have been looking for a GPZ for the last few years to finish what I started. The hard part is that the old unitrack 1100 is getting hard to find now in New Zealand. As luck would have it a mate pointed me in the direction of an awesome deal and I came home with a trailer and ute load of GPZ's. Pretty much 2.5 bikes in parts. Yah, back in business. A house shift and few other bike projects down the line and I am now ready to start on this project again. Which leads us to why this post has been revived!

We have gone into a lock down again here in New Zealand. Lucky for us this is only the 2nd lock down since the Covid 19 outbreak and for the most part life has been pretty normal. A recent outbreak has seen that change again but hey while in Rome you may as well work on your bike! Much like last time I am going to get the rolling chasis sorted and try not to make life too difficult for a change. Remember that crusty old 89 ZXR750 set of triple clamps..........Yep, still have them so they have gone into the frame. Another set of ZZR1100 forks but this time I am sticking with the ZZR1100 rims as well. Why, mainly cos I am being lazy and so that I can keep the speedo drive. I have a really nice set of R1 rims sitting in my spares pile but I just can't be arsed getting them to fit! I also have a soft spot for the ZZR rims too. Only issue is that I don't have a rear rim yet but I'll sort that out in time.

Nice to see that you are at it again. I also picked up a Gpz1100A2 this summer and is currently trying to sort out DFI before I jump down the rabbit hole.
