Thanks for the link Pete. I'll bookmark those guys. I was just using Partzilla to confirm that my pistons will work with my rotors.

I found these guys stores.ebay.co.uk/Powerhouse-Automotive-Ltd and got a seal kit from them and it looks pretty good quality, new crush washers, new bleed nipples, grease etc. Not cheap but I'm funny that way, saving money on brakes is not one of my priorities.

I have late style rotors on mine now. They are thinner than the early solid style. The pistons have to come out further but it hasn't been a problem.

Beginning to make sense to me now. When they drilled the rotors they should shed heat better. Then they could make them a bit thinner to save some weight and make the pads a bit bigger to improve stopping power. Win-win. Meanwhile the piston travel is more than capable of dealing with the ~1-2 mm thinner rotors.

Your right of course. I just checked and my old single disk has 6mm stamped on it for min thickness and the duals are 4.5mm. So x times y times z times pi, yeah were about half the weight. So you get more than twice the contact between the pads and the rotors at the expense of the weight of one caliper and one length of brake line. I'll take it.

Unsprung weight is the pay off. Easier on the front end and the ride is better.

Kawasaki like all of the other manufacturers, started to drill their brake rotors in the 70's to improve brakeing in the rain. The solid rotors take many revolutions to develop normal performance when used in the rain. The holes in the rotors give the water a place to go and take just one or two revolutions to develop normal performance.

The more holes also help keep the brake pads & the rotor's cooler under hot & heavy braking
I swapped my stock rotors on my 80 LTD 1000 with a pair of 78 Z1R rotors & noticed the difference

It's been unreasonably warm for this time of year in Ottawa so I bit the bullet and swapped my forks around to put the calipers on the rear. Happy now swest? ;) I do admit they look better back there. Also put on my mini turn signals while I was at it.

Nice work! I will be using the cast front wheel from a KZ1000 Ltd and the cast wheel from a KZ1000P on my 750 twin. I will eventually build a set of spoke wheels like yours.
