Looks really good so far. I'm amazed with what some people can do without having all the conveniences of a big shop. Reminds me of my younger days rebuilding my Triumph Spitfire in a garage without doors, a dirt floor. and a single 15A outlet.
Keep it up!

While waiting for my bored cylinders, I decided to take up on some housekeeping tasks.
Let's replace those seals!

Buttoned up! :)

Clutch time

Cage in!

New Clutch plates! Yeah!

I then decided to do a little polishing to show that a turd can indeed be polished... Starting phase

Removing the thick stuff with a wire brush yields this:

Moving to 1000 grit at this point

Let's go for 1500 grit now...!

Now some mothers...!

Final product... some pitting, but will certainly look good from 15ft away...!!!

Ha ha!
Don't matter... I'll take it!
I know there are grander builds out here, but I'm glad that this humble one is appreciated...

Well. I suppose I'm due for an update, so inspired by some of the threads around here, I've finally sprung into action.
Wife happens to be overseas, so I have the apartment to myself.
I have now transformed the living room into a man-cave / storage / motorcycle shop, to which my daughter seems to be completely indifferent to... Seems like she's become accustomed to stepping around tools and engine parts, and accepts this as normal daddy behavior.....

My first order of business was to finally send the head to get freshened up, however, my cams were ruined by moisture...( Combination of a buddy storing my parts and Florida weather)... holding for my mailman to deliver my fleabay cams soon, so I can finally get that phase finished... the rest should be relatively easy from a budgetary standpoint.

Anyhow... I have been staring at the box I received from pit stop performance long enough, so Ii cracked open the box and found my pistons with rings installed, and fitted to perfectly cut cylinders.

The outside of the cylinders needed a bit of shine, so I decided to give them the rattle-can treatment in the middle of the night (sorry about the crappy pics)... Should be mounting them today.

I plan to rebuild my starter, and finish polishing the bottom end covers in order to finish the bottom of the engine while the head comes back. After that.. it's on to addressing the frame :)

Well... I think mom understands that me expressing my mechanic-ness is a method of stress relief.
I think she is willing to tolerate whatever happens, as long as it doesn't happen in her presence... been around this same block a time or two...

Regarding the beadblasting... yes...in hindsight that may have been a good idea...
I actually have a blaster sitting in my storage, so that probably would have been a good way to go...

The cylinders needed a bit of sprucing up, but they were not that bad really...

As long as you're happy with it, that's all that matters.

I piss and moan about lacking space for my projects. At least I have an 8x12 shed and about the same sized "workshop".Guessing that would seem like luxury to you ;) Keep up the good work and thank your lucky stars you have an understanding wife like I do as well.

SWEST, you clearly are a man of experience... my daughter ratted me out yesterday... in her words to mom: ("dad has a big mess in the middle of the living room, and he's not picking it up!!")

GKBO. yes man...!... A shed would certainly be a luxury, but don't feel bad for me.
Due to the crazy real-estate market of a few years back, I unloaded my upside-down house in exchange for beach living and haven't looked back a day since.

I have an 8x10 storage unit where I keep the bulk of my stuff, but working in A/C is also a welcome luxury, especially during the summer in Florida, which can be compared to Mars or even hell....

Anyhow, I had all the intentions of mounting my pistons and cylinders to the block last night, but unfortunately I committed a major goof, and ordered the wrong size circ-clips... how 13mm could be confused for 17mm is beyond me.. but i did it... , so I ended up disassembling my starter motor in order to rebuild it.. pics to come...
