George used to hang around this forum a bit. If you search the old threads, you will likely discover why he doesn't any more.

In the op there is a pick of the bike with a 4-1 cut off just after the collector. I suspect it woul be much easier to get the engine to run with that way than with short individual pipes. I'm sure with enough experimentation that the bike can be made rideable with pods and short open pipes, but as others have said, it will be significantly down on power and throttle response is likely to be very compromised. If you are determined to go with your plan, spend some time reading threads around here. You can search "pods" and "open exhaust" and "open pipes". CV carbs are especially difficult to set up in such a build, some mechanical slide carbs might make thins easier.

Even modern Moto GP bikes run a full length system. Drag bikes and cars (depending on class) run short, individual pipes, but those engines only have to work well at wot near redline. Everything in those engines (carbs, cams, ports, exhaust, et cetera) are carefully designed to work together and would be basically unrideable on the street.

Performance and big power are not likely on the op's short list of priorities. He's after a particular style. Instead of pissing on his dream, maybe we could offer some sage advice on how he can get at least close to where he wants to be.

But they do not simply chop off the pipes with a hacksaw and lose the proper scavenging effect, backpressure, and length required to increase power and prevent valve damage. ;) Ed

I for one am not trying to piss on his dream; I understand we all have different dreams and priorities. I held back and didn't mention that his bike's handling will be diminished by that hardtail because I suspect he doesn't care about that type of performance; many folks don't actually ride enough for handling to matter much. I'm just trying to bring reality into the equation regarding the exhaust system - it is more than a decorative item. Those cut off pipes will make it quite difficult if not impossible for the engine to run properly.

So my sage advice (2 cents worth, anyway) is that he should buy another exhaust system and not cut it off. Assuming he wants a bike that runs reasonably well I sincerely believe that will get him closer to where he wants to be. Ed

I think everybody who has responded is trying to help the op avoid psychotherapy for the frustration he is heading for. I suppose my comment was in response to Davido's opening remark about the general tenor of the replies. Many of them are about what he cannot or should not do, rather than what he might do. And like you, I hope he has a close relative who is a chiropractor and hearing aid specialist.

I guess it boils down to this, if he wants to look cool and be noticed, it might be the right set up for him. There's a J build here like it (straight pipes), real money though but it seems to be understood the bike won't and can't meet up to it's full potential. It's not meant to be a race bike.
It is what it is.

Thank you TexasKZ,you pretty much summed it up. I cant believe the negativity on this thread. OK hardtails arent everybodys thing Thats been made clear.Lets move on . Theres a guy here with a KZ 750 looking for help and advice. The name of this site is 'KZrider', No?
Did I miss a caveat? Come on people, lets try and get this bloke on the road. Surely thats what it all about.

( Weird George? I dont know anything about the guy or his history here. I pulled my carbs, disconnected everything without taking pictures. When it came to putting it all together again I had no idea what went where. I found a picture on his website that showed where everything goes.If he was a twat and fucked people over,ok,not cool but his picture enabled me to put my carbs together.Simple as that.)

So, in short, can we not put our positive underpants on tomorrow and try and help this guy????

one problem is that everyone wants to spout there opinion instead of just helping the guy work through his issues.

this site is not "friendly" to people who want to build a custom or something that is not a near resto.

pretty sad really,

so i get what i can get from this site and seek what i can't get from this site elsewhere.

guess what happens when people start hanging out on other forums???

they quit returning to this one and it dies.

so maybe next time someone puts up a build you may not care for,
either help the guy out or keep your "thinly veiled" negative comments to yourself.
seems pretty simple.

OP hasn't logged on since the 10th. Wonder if he's working like a mad beaver or if KZR has lost him after three whole posts?

it seems that the bob/chop guys usually bail after the "welcome"(or lack thereof) they receive here.

it's a shame because they could prolly at least turn some of the resto guys onto some stock parts they won't be using.

maybe share some knowledge they learn along the way.

but after having there dreams dashed and told that their bike will never run again i can't blame them for moving on.

our loss ,
