Well now,let me explain the torque wrench thing.I put the engine on its side,dropped the frame over it,fitted all the bolts and brackets and
got them tightened up. A bit. Then we flipped the whole thing up the right way and I tweeked all the bolts again. Problem was,things didnt look right.The rear mount looked a bit twisted and the weird u-shaped washer/spacer thing on the front upper mount was very loose. So, I thought,Ok,Ill torque everything up as it should be and hopefully thatll be that.
So, I went to my very friendly,very local bike shop this morning and cadged a torque wrench. Tightened everything up (or down?) and had a look.
The rear mount looks well squiffy and the u-shape washer is tighter than it was but I can still rotate it by hand. This I think is not good.Something is rotten in the state of my Z.
I had a thunk and remember buying a new rear mount bolt as the old one had a slight bend in it!! Also,as I said earlier,the rubber spacers on the front are knackered.I thought I could get away with reusing them but it looks like Im going to have to replace them. Bugger.
So Im a bit miffed at the moment.
On the bright side,when I went to return the torque wrench to my very friendly local bike shop,I brought a bag of bits with me and did a bit of powdercoating while I was there.

Sidestand,numberplate holder and modified headlight bracket. Plus some other odds and sods.

congrats on the powdercoated parts.
always nice to be able to do that"walk-in walk-out"style.
i see,
you wanted to torque everything to help your "piece of mind".
totally understandable.
too bad it still didn't net the results you were looking for :sick: .

and the u-shaped washer/spacer that I can still rotate by hand,even though the bolt is torqued down/up.

Putting some bits together today;
The 'lighty up' bit. With the original KZ bracket,(cut extended and powder coated by my own fair hand!)

The rear 'lighty up bit with all the bits

YSS shocks looking great (I need to find the top mount nuts though .As with a lot of the bits,theyre in a box somewhere!!

I was looking at the front mudguard and Im not feeling very excited about this ZXR thing. Does anyone have any suggestions for an alternative? ( I like the look of the ZRX ones but they arent cheap) Something cheap and cheerful.

A bit more progress today.
Rearsets and sidestand . I hope Im not going to have problems here.

Other side with the brake resevoir also fitted and connected (not a very good photo)

Battery box and attached plugs and cables

I bead blasted the hydraulic clutch slave and it came up really nice (no photo,sorry) I was told I could wipe it over with diesel to protect it,If that works out,I want to do all the alloy bits in the same way. Rearsets,engine cases,etc. So,the rearsets are probably going to come off again.
The battery box also is temporary as I want to redo the electrics with a smaller,sealed battery and a new box (probably aluminium)a new fusebox also but im going to keep it as it is for now.I think its a safer idea to get the bike up and running with electrics that I know are working.Once Ive got the bike running right,I can start changing things around.

Here you go Monkeydoodle;

The family is away at the minute so the petrol tank is in the shower getting flushed out ( I want to fit an aviation type filler cap which ill need to weld in and I dont want to blow myself up so Im trying to rinse all the fumes out of it) Maybe tomorrow I can dry it out and fit it for a better photo.
Also ,I want to get the exhaust on to find a location for the hanger bracket.

yup I'm liking that....LOTS!! Regarding the fuel cap have you been stealing my thoughts?? I was thinking of doing the same, been looking at flea bay the past couple of weeks and can't find much, I did miss out on one that was second hand, it came with the threaded part also (still attached to the sheet metal :laugh: ) keep looking me thinks?
