Still waiting on the rear wheel.Its holding things up a bit.
In the meantime, a few pictures of some other stuff.
The clocks were in a bit of a mess when I took them off the bike right around the time that 'Practical Sportsbike'
did a feature on how to restore clocks! It was a very nice article and worked a treat.
Before;

After;

Im not sure if Im going to use them,I would prefer the classic Z style ones but if I go for a fairing I could keep these ones on. Not sure yet how to go on that. Anyway theyre restored and ready to go if I need them.

The other thing that Im not sure about is the paint/colour. When i got the bike,the tank was 'brushed on' black paint with a big brake fluid spill down one side of it. I stripped it down and found a lot of body filler on it. I really liked the idea of a bare steel tank with some sort of clear coat on it but I dont think thats going to work with all the dents in it. I have no idea what the P.O. did but it looks like he attacked it with a hammer.

I thiink the only way around it is to bodyfill it again and put some paint on it.

Those gauges turned out awesome! I assume that article's in print and you can't link it, right? I want to get to mine this winter.

Also, some bikes wear a slightly dented tank pretty well - you could always go with the bare metal and see if it grows on you for now, and paint it later if it doesn't.

Keep it up, looks great!

Thats probably what Ill do. I dont have to worry about the tank yet anyway as itll be a while before I get to it.I was just thinking about it while waiting for the back wheel which has now arrived and brought with it a whole lot of other head scratching problems (challenges).
Ill post some pictures soon.
The write up on renovating your clocks was in 'Practicle Sportsbikes' . A british magazine.If I can find the issue,Ill try and scan it and post it. Its a great magazine and well worth looking out for.

As much of a fan as I am on trying to salvage things, I think id try and find a replacement tank.
It would take a of metal working to get that tank even close enough to finish it off with a thin coat lead or plastic. ;)

Still recovering,some days are better than others.

I did try filling it with lead. A very stinky process and it didnt work very well so I stripped it out again. I thought about a different tank but thats even more money. Ill leave it as it is for now and throw myself off that bridge when I come to it.

I found the article on clock restoration. I dont know if its allowed to post it here or not but its a good article and it worked a treat for me. If its a problem let me know and ill take it down
Its from 'Practicle sportbike' Issue12.

Yeah, I'm not sure what the rules are but thanks nonetheless! I'll have to keep my eye out for that magazine, it looks like a handy one.

The back wheel arrived, I took it to my local bike shop and he put an old tire on it for me ,for the mock-up.

Fitted a pair of top notch Ohlins M.D.F hardtail shocks to get the stance right.

I have no idea how Im going to get this to work. An early model GSXR wheel with a 180 tire in a GS1100e swingarm!!
Ive read a lot of threads here on back-end conversions using a GS1100 arm but I havent found anyone putting a GSXR wheel in it yet. If youre out there, let me know cause Im stumped.
I expected a bit of farting around to shimmy bits here and spacer bits there with maybe even an offset front sproket but looking at it now,I just dont see it working. Ok,I havent really jumped into it yet,this is just a first impression and the wheel will physically fit but it looks like itll have to be so far back in the arm that there will be no room for tensioning the chain.

No Idea!

Good luck with your mags Cyclhed,I think they look a lot better than the spokes. My bike came with the mags when I got it. I wasnt sure if it was really a CSR or an LTD..

Spdygon, youre right about the 180 in the swingarm .I know the GS1100 was made for a 140 but I reckon I might be able to fit a 160 into it without too much hassle.

So the search is on for a rear wheel that'll take a 17x160 tire. Im looking for something that'll match with the 3 spoke front ('95 ZX9R) . So far Ive come up with the 650 Bandit, the FZR 600R(94/95) and the ZX6R(95/96).
If anybody has any other ideas,please let me know. Im stalled until I can get this sorted.

(Something that takes a 20mm axle would be good)

Things are still at a standstill.Ive been busy with work lately and had no time for the bike. I have done a bit more research into 17x160 back wheels and the YZF600r Thundercat or FZS600 Fazer are looking good. Before I go any further though,I want to pull the wheel out of my 600 Bandit and try that,Its only a 17x150 but it should give me an idea if Im going in the right direction.
