WOW! So I took my engine out of the frame for this first time. What a @$#%^&*! So I thought that laying the bike on its side was the easy way.
So when I have the fresh paint and powder coat on this will not work. How do you guys remount the engine and not bugger everything up? Remove the head?

I use the laying-it-on-the-side method.

Lay the engine on it's right side with a support under the head (wooden block or similar), possibly under the clutch cover as well.

Wrap some protection around the frame tubes - I like to use some foam piping insulation secured with tape or zip ties.

Lower the frame over the engine and insert the larger engine mount bolts.

With the bike still on it's side, loosely install the assembled front end (forks, lower triple and wheel).

Loosely install the swingarm w/rear wheel and the left side rear shock.

Stand the whole thing up and you're ready to proceed, job can be done in less than half an hour without sweating or cussing.

Really? I must be doing something wrong. I had to remove the exhaust studs and oil pan to keep it from binding. Of course my first mistake was thinking I could do it with the forks and swinger still mounted. Thanks for your input.

One man operation.... Remove cylinder & head, (at least head) slides right in from right side of frame...

Thanks OMR I figured that was the way to go.

You shouldn't have to remove anything from the engine. You can do the OMR method for one person, or put the assembled engine in with a 2nd person to help. Just make sure you are only installing and removing the engine from RIGHT side....they aren't meant to go through the left side. I've never tried the 'laying on its side' thing but I might the next time...seems to work well for most.

some vinyl tubing will protect the frame.

Finally got my head done. Yes it was done right. Found a guy that uses a CNC to cut the seats and valves and he saved me a ton of money.

Got another little goody in the mail today. No ore guessing how much fuel is in the tank!

I had done my carbs the same way! Hope you used a self etching primer first!
