Oh Leon, Leon, Leon.... You have to have the vision to see twin round cans sticking out from under that shaved rear tail! Nice and tucked up, not too many people doing it (Except Adam...Dang!). Trust the builder, it will look sexy! Besides, since I don't have the equipment to weld stainless, I may be paying you for some work!

Oh no, I was only teasing with those pics. Like Mark pointed out, those 1098 cans are much too big, long and HEAVY (cats inside I believe). After mocking it up I decided to go with something simpler and a lot lighter. I haven't completely abandoned the idea, but for the time being it's suspended in favor of getting the bike on the road sooner. Building carbon bodywork is complicated and expensive (especially the tank) and is really only good for the sake of being different, but I jumped head first into that hot mess, so I get it

This Hypermotard can setup is pretty compact and workable. It is heavy, but I am going to gut it and design my own baffling like I did for my SV. Will be TONS lighter! I think it will add to the high tech feel for the bike plus I like symmetrical designs.

the kz's look good with the tail kicked up a little too. just look at Drews bike for a good example.
just sayin that, in case u need a little more clearance for the exht.

The angle is bad. If you look at the side profile I posted a while ago, I have a ton of room between the tire and the underside of the tail. The cans are 4.25" in diameter which would still probable leave me like 6 inches to the tire. I also can get about an inch of additional clearance if I flip the essentrics.... Will post pics once I have it fitted on Tuesday.

hotshoecustoms.com saturday so my wife could buy another shirt,and he had this bad boy cbx loaded up headed to new york city.



last time i stopped by his shop he was in the middle of the build,it has a cool undertail exhaust.

as with anything it can look good if done"right".

i have faith that you can make it work out cory.

can't wait to see whatcha come up with sir.

The Aprilia SXV's have a sweet undertail exhaust with nearly side exit, slash cut tips. Those big cans hanging off the rear fender kill the look for me.

So due to a employee chosen extra holiday, I had some time to go an putz with KZ. Didn't get much accomplished though. The things I learned today...

1. Undertail exhaust will not work......I would have to custom design a very low profile, single muffler. I don't want to mess with the rear profile/height/shape.... So back to the second wonderful idea (insert sarcasm where you need) for exhaust.

2. Love the rear sets by Les. May have to decide if it is worth it to move forward with trying to keep the kick starter and mod it to work with the rear sets.

3. Moving forward with my own custom wiring harness.

4. May leave the stock kick stand as I think the additional lean is OK and may be beneficial toward the stability when on its stand.

5. Making new mounts for the oil cooler. Going to be rubber mounted at 4 points.

Repaired the battery box and got it installed to make sure everything fits together nicely. Here are some pics of the rear sets.

All I did to make the ZRX triples fit was call "all balls" bearing guys and we figured out what I needed to make the ZRX triples & stem work in the Z1 steering head. It all fit perfect.
