Thanks for the kind words fellas. Tonight I tried to knock out a bunch of little stuff. First, I finished cleaning up all the terminals in my wiring harness, and I do mean all. :X Next thing was to finish adjusting valve clearances. I had two that weren't quite right from my previous adjustment. Now that I'm happy with my clearances, I got my valve cover back on with my second set of cam end plugs. Only I would need five of 'em to get it right. Finally, I managed to bench sync my carb slides. One thing that I found out the hard way was not to have any of the slides totally bottomed out while adjusting the others. This will hold the other slides up until you adjust the one that was bottomed. Once you start to raise it, you lose the adjustment on the other three carbs.

I still need to check the float height on those carbs before I bolt them in place. I'll have to come up with some temporary fuel source in order to do that and once I start to sync the carbs with the bike running. In order to get to the stage of hitting the start button, I have just a few things left. Set floats, install carbs, install wiring, hook up the Dyna 2000 for real, top off the oil, and add fuel. Am I missing anything? Anyone have a good, cheap DIY, hang up fuel bottle solution? I may just get there by this weekend.

X 2.

Sounds like u are getting close.
if u do a bench sync with a 1/16th drill bit. it will run just fine like that . then later u can do a full sync on the bike.
that way u can just start it and go for a rip . :woohoo:

I see you are using the Dyna ignition ...

You have got to let us know how well it works for you. I would really like to get one but am struggling with the 400 dollar price tag.

If it works well and is worth it I have no problem spitting out the cash, but I hate buying stuff that does not work well.

Very nice work!!

Ted, you better believe that I will report my findings on the Dyna 2000 and everything else. I like the fact that you can flip a switch and adjust the advance curve, and another for the rev limiter. I'll probably never touch them after they are set correctly. It has the output for a digital tach, and it can be programmed with the additional programming kit. Not that I know what to do with that. I bought it because I was needing new coils anyway, so it wasn't too much more money since the coils are included in the $400 kit. Hopefully I'll have some findings soon.

Well I got the wiring harness all connected tonight. I even went to the trouble to wire in the new fuse box, and all the new lights. So I thought I'd connect the battery to see if anything worked. Drumroll.... Nothing. So I bust out the multimeter and start checking. I notice right away that the main power fuse is blown. Ok, replace the fuse and see what happens. Needless to say that fuse tried to be a light bulb for about one nanosecond. So I'll go back to the drawing board with wiring diagram in hand tomorrow. Wish me luck.

Out of all the parts of the bikes systems, the electrical stuff is what I understand the least. I get the basic stuff, but you start talking about different amps for different circuits, how you figure wire and fuse sizing and actually designing a wiring system....I'm lost

i agree with Adam. the electrical is the most confusing for most of us. At the same time i enjoy the challenge. u always seem to learn something along the way.
Good luck.;)

Good luck with the troubleshooting Josh. It'll end up being something that'll make you feel retarded. Always is.

And guys, electrical is easy, V=IR to know how many amps are in a circuit, and for sizing wires you can just use P=RI^2. Ok, maybe more to it than that but its not that bad.

I think that I have the problem isolated to the right side switch pod. Something must have gotten pinched in there.

I agree with you guys. I can see mechanical systems and understand in my head how they work. Sadly, I can't see the electrons moving so I have a harder time with the wires. It always goes the same for me with the electrics. I learn it for long enough to solve my current problem, and once I'm past the problem it's all gone from my head again.

It seems that something is shorted to ground in that switch pod. All I know to do is eliminate everything, and start plugging stuff in until the fuse blows. When I got to the the solid brown wire it popped the fuse. I should know more in just a minute.

I got it! It was a wire that got pinched between the pod halves causing a direct short to ground. My lights work now. :)
