New switches. Hi- beam not working.

I swapped out my handle bar switches for aftermarket replacements. I got everything working OK but now my high beam doesn't work.

I tried changing out the bulb but it's still not working. By not working I mean the high beam is really dim and the high beam light on the dash doesn't light up.

It was working when I first got everything installed but now I can get it to work correctly at all. Is it possible that the new switch can't handle the load of high beam and I need a relay?

If it can't handle the load it's already burned out. Hopefully that's not the case.

No, try switching the low and high connectors. Switch might be faulty.

I think the switch is at fault. I'm going to find a mini relay and see if I can exchange the switch. If not I'll try to fix it.

I got the switch in April so i cant exchange it. I guess i'll have to pull it a part and re-solder it. I found some relays, I might as well do the low beam while I'm at it.

Where in the loom should I put the relay? Just before the headlight? Before the dash light? Will this mess up the reserve lighting system?

Ok! I'm stumped!

I wired the headlight through 20A Mini relays. It worked the first 2 or 3 times I switched back and forth. After that no high beam. I swapped bulbs and relays same result. I can hear and feel the relays working but I have no clue what's going wrong.

Disregard panic.

I had some of the wires mixed up. I had a long day yesterday and it dawned on me this morning that I might have put the wrong leads in to the wrong sockets.

Works great now!

Now all I have to do is fab up mounting points for everything and put it back together.

BTW. I got the micro relays and sockets from Cycle Terminal

REINSTATE PANIC!!!

The relay set up isn't working now and I'm strangely getting continuity between the dedicated fuse and the high beam trigger wire with or without switch on. I have checked and double checked every wire in every way I can think of. The only thing i can think of is that fuse box is bad with a short between the spare circuit and the main circuit.

if I disconnect the relay circuit and plug a headlight into the original socket it works BUT my battery is low, under 9v right now because I'm having issues with my new R/R set up as well.

FML.

Sounds like your having loads of fun there, with your electrics. Is it possible to reinstal the original switch and see what happens? From that you should be able to see if your looking at a dodgy switch or dodgy wiring.

I'm saying.
I'm actually thinking this issue is caused by my other issue. I had it on the chager for a few minutes and I did the random, hope-and- see-if-anything-happens, fiddling around and the low beam started buzzing.

Working theory: my relays have a trip threshold of 10v or they ain't workin'.

If you have a reserve lighting unit, I'd suspect that. Been known to have problems.

Are the relays in the right way around?
