Took out the the points cam lobe today to check the orientation. The cam doesn't have a mark as an indicator, As you can see, my cam doesn't have a notch on top for alignment purpose. Since it can install in only two possible ways I am using the high side of the cam as a reference instead. As you can see, the high (thick) side of the cam is facing the 2 | 3 side of the advancer. if anyone has currently has theirs apart, can you please confirm that this is the correct orientation? Having trouble setting the timing by the book using new points. The same issue as the OP.

I have a Dyna now but I would think the low side should be at 1/4. That's where the points should just start opening. 1 or 4 should be at TDC of course.

As opening of points causes the coil to fire, situate the cam so that it's rise is toward the 9 o'clock points heel as 1/4 F mark passes the case mark.

Conversely, this also results in the cam rise being toward the 3 o'clock points heel as 2/3 F mark passes the case mark.

Here's a pic from the FSM (duly embellished).

Good Fortune! :)

Finally got it static timed today. The cam orientation was correct as is. Originally I was trying to use digital meter in the audible mode and it would stay in short mode only. So I went and purchased a cheap analog meter and went by the FSM recommendation to adjust until the needle flickers. I had tried to check timing before using a timing light. But that didn't give me an accurate reading. However, the timing light I was using and an inductive pick up so not sure if that was a factor.
