Picked up this sweet 1980 z1000 classic EFI bike with 6900 original miles and all original except for the exhaust.

Po must have used an impact wrench on the oil plug bc its ugly. Anyone know what threads are in it? I stupidly put it back together without measuring ... metric 12 or 15? Thinking I'll put on an oil drain valve on as the clearance to the exhaust is tight and I don't like dripping oil on them.

Congrats on the purchase!

You can cut the top and bottom off of an aluminum can, then make one lengthwise cut. Presto, you have malleable sleeve you can put over that section of exhaust to keep the oil off.

Maybe you could read what he actually wrote, which is that he drips oil on the pipes when he's doing an oil change. It's not about "leak[ing] oil".

The aluminum shield is a temporary measure to be used while the oil is being drained. That should have been obvious.

Aluminum foil works wonders for making quick and easy shields when needed. Cheap and handy too until you come up with a valve method that works for ya.. Some headers can be a PIA when changing oil & filters.

It's a valve... that threads in where your drain plug is...so you can drain the oil.
