So I think I figured out part of my issue. Since I put the points system back on the I didn't check the cam and just put it in thinking it was like a four cylinder (an oval). So I read my manual but it only references the timing advancer from the 76' kz750 which is slightly different. Mine doesn't have the the cut out to clock the advancer came correctly. But it does have a little hole right next to the tec logo can anyone verify this is correct alignment? I provided the manual instructions and a pic of my advancer with it aligned as described. If that is correct then i would have had it 180 degrees out. no bueno

To be brutally honest it sounds like you don't know what you are doing, so my first suggestion is you get the correct manual for your bike/engine, then set up valve clearances and cam timing, then static time your points, spin it up to check sparks, then remove carbs and sonic clean them, pay particular attention to the float bowls where the brass enricher tube goes, because down at the bottom is a small brass jet that is notorious for blocking up, use a sonic cleaner for this job and some compressed air to blow it out, after this put some water in the bowls to make sure liquid rises up the cavity, when this happens dry and blow through all ports on carbs then reassemble and set up as manual says including float levels and bench synchronize, put back on bike connect fuel and all relevant parts if you have a vacuum tap connect vac pipe to one brass stubb and then blank the other off, your bike should be ready to go. Good luck.

Here's a link to a KZ750 twin manual. It includes the "other than US" 1979 KZ750-B4.

Here's a picture of my KZ650 timing advancer. It may be a little different than your advancer, but shows the hole and the mark on the cam. Ed

This is the correct manual for my bike, they made it for the 76 and adapted it to the 78 so they wouldn't have to make new ones. I have cleaned the carbs thoroughly pulling out all the jets in the bowl and making sure they are clear. After reading the manual more about the carbs i noticed there is an abnormal pilot circuit and a enricher circuit. I will try cleaning those out better. I dont have access to an ultrasonic cleaner unfortunately. I am getting strong spark which tells me this is not the problem. It has to be one of the air ports or something of the nature. I'm pretty stumped. Why cant we just go back to Vm carbs for everything like in the early 70s lol.

The jet which will make it extremely hard to start if blocked is the one at the bottom of the top circled hole these are push in, and sometimes when a bike has sat idle for long periods and the fuel has evaporated they are gummed up with residual varnish, these need to be clear or you will have no fuel when operating the choke.

So i've got some great news and some bad news. I went to get starting fluid and didnt even need it. hit the button with it choked after reversing the ignition rotor and it started up first tap of the button. Revved great and everything. Well now when i hit the button it sounds like the starter is just spinning.....i'm assuming broken starter clutch but anyone else have any other ideas? i'll investigate tomorrow.

I don't think that's it because I can hear it making a full rotation theirs just no compression noise and I can kick start the bike fine.

If it kick starts fine now, electric can be repaired at a later date, maybe road time now.

Also is anyone running a aftermarket replacement petcock with one spout and running a splitter? My petcock seized so I bought a replacement but could only find the kz900/1000 replacement and the spouts are parallel which interferes with the carbs. I'm just afraid 1 spout won't feed enough gas on acceleration. Thoughts?
