Hey guys, back again. This kz750 has been years in the making now with many other projects getting in the way. She is so close. I bought a kz750-4 dynatek ignition a long time ago. because i thought my points were causing a problem and decided to upgrade(it ended up being the timing advancer was rusted shut. I either way i figured it out and rode it at barber fest just as a commuter. Well she sat for a while after until i cleaned the carbs and started working on her again. Well i read somewhere that you have to widen the holes for the dynatek mounting plate to get the corrected timing. i did so and it still isn't running as good as it did at barber, Either way i turn the timing plate it either back fires a lot or misfires. I suppose the carbs could need another cleaning due to this ethanol gas, but with my previous experience carbs will usually if anything is clogged the engine wont run at all or just on choke. Also before the tear down i made sure the engine was running perfectly. I adjusted the valves with the proper shims etc.

My other question is i deleted my starter and an only using my kick starter. well now it haws started failing to return by itself. i have to pull it back up everytime. Has anyone heard of these kickstarter shafts bending

Broken spring, they aren't made to use all the time.

BINGO! At the least, the return spring is weak.

well i took the shaft cover off and removed the spring. its not broken I suppose it could be stretched, but it literally just started doing it after about 5 kicks yet i rode it for a good month with no issues of the sort.

Guys, I still can't figure out what is going on. I have done everything...double checked my timing, cleaned the carbs 200 times. Everything I can think of...I have plenty of strong spark and fuel. It's so weird the bike won't even start now.

Might be bad gasoline, or maybe water in the tank.
Would suggest stopping fuel flow to the carb, and then test for combustion with starter fluid.
Perhaps help to first clean the combustion chambers with a spritz of starter fluid into the sparkplug holes.

Is there a good aftermarket in-line fuel filter fitted?

Good Fortune! :)

It's a possibility the gas is bad, but I also tried using bottles like a bladder to get it to run off of that and it still did the same. It's so weird bc the thing ran great then I took the engine out to paint the frame and put everything back together and it doesn't run the same as it used to. Only thing I can think is possibly bent valve? I don't understand what else would cause it I'm getting great spark and all unless something is ring with the carbs but I have inspected them multiple times. Are there any problem areas I might not notice with these carbs? I know the jets are in the bowl and I make sure all those ports are clear. The floats don't have holes. The diaphragms don't have holes etc. I'm at a dead end.

Also a side note I don't have a starter so I have to kick start it and it's tiring as hell. Used to it would start first or second kick EVERYTIME.
