OK what can I do to clean this up after having it redone...
They claim they boiled it and blasted the ports et al.... to me it looks like they only blasted off the areas around the ports and nothing else.
I have a small soda blaster but my 3HP compressor can't really deliver a large enough CFM at any real high pressure.
Maybe no more then then 50-60psi at 6-7 cfm, which just doesn't really cut it. OK for carb and small parts but not this.
I'm tempted to paint the cylinder and head a satin black and move on.
I hesitate a bit on painting because the cases are not painted and don't want it to look like a half ass'd Z1 since it isn't a Z1 but a KZ1000.

bummer. Looks like they did a good job where they blasted, but they sure didnt do the whole thing. Personally I would take it to another shop and have them blast the whole thing, if they use bead i would remove the valves and everything inscase the mask leaks. but if you have time you could do a reasonable job of polishing that thing with red scotchbright and polish. I would not paint over a substrate with that level of oxidization, it is asking for trouble down the road.

You may want to try polishing it by hand with steel wool
it comes in coarse-medium-and fine grade.

Thats a bummer. I guess if I were doing it I would break it all back down and gas bead blast the whole thing.

Ugh... I'm thinking the same thing. I can't understand why these guys didn't just do it and charge an extra $30.
They said I never asked to do it but... they do lots and lots of V-Twin Harley stuff there and I think they dissed me because it's not.

I'd take it back and say WTF? You did a shabby job!
Re-do it or I am going to throw it through your front window!
Really? I hve done 50 heads over 40 years. And I would never give a patron a head back that looked like that!
If your OK with it? Go get some VHT high temp paint and paint it before you get any oils on it.
But, don't accept that kind of work! I would not! If they say they were going to blast hyour head.
Sorry if I missed something about what the invoice was for? But if your going to the work? Do it! and do the head! All of it!
The head is exposed to bead media! so do it all!
This is one of the last heads I did to sell.
Just my opinion! I like to do this work for a hobby and fun! Stress relief ect.

That's nice. Jood job, wish everyone would do work like that. I guess the mistake was taking it to HD guys in the first place.

My head was ugly so I shaved off my beard. Didn't help, made it worse.

Just kidding. I'd put the valve cover on, block the intake, exhaust, oil galleys and do myself.

I've got two red flags on that first pic.

First is that head was surfaced on a belt sander type surfacer
While it "MAY" be flat it ani't gonna be true to the cam centerline
and you'll be bitchin about cam chain noise.
Exh. studs don't look like they were removed and you can't surface
a KZ head with them in.

Correct. it is obvious they were not removed and each one of them has a little grinder kiss flat spot on tip/end of threads.
I checked them with the clam shell collars and the finned diffuser. There is still about 3/16" thread showing after the nut is installed.
I don't believe it was done on a belt sander, stroke sander or straight up surface grinder though.
It has very fine, wide radius circular marks from what looks like some kind of blanchard grinding.

The invoice says .009" was removed to take a warp out. ???
This is a head that I pissed and moaned about a shit job they did a few years ago and they agreed to "make it right" LOL!!

Look close at that last pic. the cutter marks don't go past the valve
Are the cutter marks on the other end of the head ?
