"It's a Guy Thing" We have all thought with our dip-sticks at one time or another and It has been a "painful experience" I believe that is the whole Gist of the commercial.
But anyway, Rislone has now also come out with a new ZDDP additive in June. It is not on the retail store shelves yet but it can be ordered.

Just stopped by "Advance Auto Parts" They finally got the Rislone in stock. I bought all four quarts they had. They honored the Internet special price of $6.99 The regular price is about $12 and they had an in store special of $9 I also just got odd the phone with Rislone and found out the ZDDP concentrations. The NEW 4401 Product with ZDDP will bring any modern oil with no Zinc to 1800PPM when used in a 4Qt oil and 1Qt 4401 blend. This additive is recommended for ALL engines 2006 and older.

The zinc dialkydithiophosphate (ZDDP) content in engine oils is typically listed in the MSDS of the product. I checked into a number of oils. The motorcycle oils, racing oils, & heavy-duty/diesel-engine oils typically have about the same amount of ZDDP, and it's usually less than 2%. The msds for Redline Motorcycle oils (several weights) shows a ZDDP content range of 0.6 %-1.6%.

Shell Rotella-T & Chevron Delo (both 15W-40 regular) are two such heavy duty oils that are good for vintage motorcycle use. Their ZDDP content is about the same as motorcycle oils & they're usually cheaper than other oils, often times in the $10-12 range for a 4-gal jug.

Note: since exact numbers aren't always given, it's difficult to determine which oil has more ZDDP. Mobile for instance lists their ZDDP content as being less than such n such percent (<2% or <2.5%, something like that, so who knows what it is). It's entirely possible that the Rotella & Delo have the same amount of zinc-phosphate as mc oils, or more.

Edit: according to Valvoline, it is the phophorous that provides the primary anti-wear protection.

The listings should be in PPM. Al modern oils have 200PPm or less. The older oil standards used to be 800PPm The solid lifter engines require a minimum of 1200PPm and Racing oils used to have as much as 1600PPm. I have the Red Line the Lucas and now the Rislone. I have also used the ZDDP+ product. They are all good products and all have advantages and disadvantages. The two products IO like the best are the Lucas and the Rislone. Mostly due to price and availability. The other additive packages in those two products are also a plus. Rotella-T already has 1200PPm of ZDDP in it. For a stock bike, Rotella-T is as good as any Hi performance oil or motorcycle oil out there. I just bought a 2.5 Gal Jug of Rotella-T at Walmart for about $22. Since my engine has Hi lift cams .420" and very stiff springs, I require more than the 1200PPm of ZDDP. Modern bikes which have 4 valve cylinders have very little lift and the springs are quite soft. Much softer than the stock springs are even in a stock KZ550 or 650. This is due to the fact that they do not require stiff springs with the little valves they use. Moder Motorcycle oils are designed for modern bikes. In the last 8 months I have spent a couple hundred hours on the phone with different oil and additive manufacturers, attempting and usually succeeding in squeezing information out of them. If you know how to phrase a question, they will tell you the info you require because they want to avoid any intentional law suite. The only motor oils that are designed for gasoline engines that have adequate amounts of ZDDP in them are designed for "Off road use only" "Racing Oil" They actually use between 1800PPm-2200PPm in those oils. These are the same amounts of ZDDP used in aircraft oils such as AeroShell-50 If you run a cam of .360" or higher with high performance springs, on an eight valve head, you should be running 1800PPm of ZDDP. If you are .410" or over you should be at 2200PPm+.

In the last 8 months I have spent a couple hundred hours on the phone with different oil and additive manufacturers, attempting and usually succeeding in squeezing information out of them with my fingers and toes, they love it !!!especially when the phone line lights up and the caller i.d says "Otto".I think they they flip a coin to see who's turn it is to answer the phone.
They claim that i'm their only oil stalker but i find that odd....some nights i wait in the parking lot while the oil guys walk to their cars and jump out and suprise em...boy do they look scared...but now i can't call or go within 500 ft of the plant....until my court date..
I still send flowers i just sign it "Auto"...get it Otto and Auto...i bet it freaks em out!!!!

Is there any disadvantage to running aviation oil in a bike? Aeroshell may have the advantage of lotsa ZDDP, but is there anything it lacks that motorcycle specific oils have that a bike engine needs?
