No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationHere is a good link to read.

blog.motorists.org/warning-if-you-have-a...-your-oil-carefully/

I just ordered a case of the Lucas brake-in-additive. The shipping is $45 but it will be worth it and will last for a few years. Unless of-course some of you want some.

I will match that price. One bottle will last 8 oil changes if you use Rotella and 4 oil changes if you use regular motor oil.

I have a question. Why don't they use these additives or whatever in new sportbikes? If I had an R1 I would just stick some Motul synth in it and be done with it. An R1 revs to 17,000RPM and has flat tappets. I don't see how our engines require something special.

I'm not trying to be difficult, just trying to figure out this whole thing. I've been perusing data about this whole ZDDP thing all night and nothing I've read has convinced me about it. Modern motorcycle oils must just have it, or have something different that is just as good.

Yes I did state that I believe that hi Priced Motorcycle oils have ZDDP. i refuse to pay $10-$14 a quart for oil On the average that is a $60 oil change. My oil change is about $16 total with synthetic oil when I buy Rotella at Walmart, and add 2oz of ZDDP. Take a look at a decent Motorcycle oil.

Ah, ok. Thats my issue I guess. I'm gonna just stick in Motul 7100 from the beginning. Sure its $60 a change but at one change a year thats not so bad.

I'm probably going to break in with regular old castrol 4t since its cheaper.

And thats the end of my hijack, thanks for putting up with me. I just can't stand it when I don't understand things.

That will be a problem, because during the breakin is when you require the ZDDP the most. Most shops recommend as much as 5000PPM of ZDDP at that critical stage. Without ZDDP you might be saying good buy camshafts. I think that has been covered in a previous post also where someone wiped out a set of APE cams and APE will not warranty them, which is standard policy from all cam manufacturers. This is why they all sell or recommend a ZDDP cam lube additive.

Castrol 4t has .11wt% Zn and .10wt% Phosphorous. I don't know what that converts to in PPM, since I don't know the molecular weight of the oil itself.

Rings are very important to brake in right. Cam chain makes no difference.

Be sure the walmart shell has zinc I heard they are reduced. I get mine from the bulk barrels at the truck stops
