Hey Steve, I have one of the vetter lights. The chrome plastic has some flaking, but it is functional. It is too thin for the ST fork ears, not sure I want to rig spacers. R

You might want to keep it as one piece. After the wreck, I pulled mine out of a Vetter I had laying around. I like the quick headlight change feature. ;)

Well getting set for engine reassembly. Finally got the base gasket remnants off. What a PIA. If I remember right the base gasket needs to go on dry. I ended up using a 3M pad by hand to get all the old gasket off. With the head studs in place this made for tedious work that the drill chuck just was not suited for. The 3M pad was only mildly abrasive so it sucked, but it's off without significant scraping damage. My gasket set did not have the oil pump oring and the inner pan large oring. So the putting the cases together will have wait until those arrive. The gasket set I have is very nice quality, surprised no orings. Valve lapping and cleaning case bolts with a run thru the metric die tomorrow. I suppose that since I have to wait a bit I will probably tape off the cases and splash on some engine paint. The cases have been scrubbed and washed. There are a few places where the finish is worn away, by the head and block are actually in nice shape paint wise. Polishing done for now, not show level, but very shiny. I did not sand out all the imperfections, just a polish with red rouge on sisal side and white blizzard on the buff side of the wheel. They came out nice. I will also take some Marvel Mystery Oil to the pipes to remove some surface rust and clean up before solvent and then some hand polishing with chrome polish. I have a located a seat that is not a dual seat, a much nicer correct tank, bolt on ready calipers and a bunch of other odds and ends from a salvaged 80 KZ1000E ST. So really the only paint left will be the hard bags. I have a guy that will do black cheaply with a hard daycron paint. I will do all the prep. Still need MC, grips, headlight bucket and guts, 28 non pumper bowls, jets, tires.... probably a few more things too. Fun Fun Fun R
