If you install individual pod filters, it may help if you add extenders between the carbs & filters. The extenders would act as ducts to help stabilize the air flow. CV carburetors are sensitive to unstable air. VM carbs from the earlier 650s are easier to use w the pod filters, but under certain conditions even VMs can be problematic w pods.

Be careful when selecting an air box from eBay. Most of them are missing critical pieces, and nobody sells them separately. There needs to be the cap and the bottom piece inside the box to hold the filter otherwise the box is worthless. See arrows in image below. Ed

Kawasaki.com shows the airbox part number for the KZ650-H1 as being unique to that model, but there may be others that would work. Sometimes the differences are cosmetic. Ed

Ed, his bike is an 82 & it has the BS32 carburetors.

Before buying an airbox, check your frame to see if it will fit --- who knows what the po did.
Stock the airbox is supported by a couple of L brackets that attach it to the battery case.
See diagrams at Kawasaki.com or Partzilla.

As for which one to get, you can use an airbox from the 81-83 650-CSR or just about any 750-4 (not sure about the GPzs). Also, probably the KZ700 & ZN700. Some of them have grommet holes for the carb overflow tubing, so if you happen to get one of those, you'd need to plug the holes or get grommets & route the tubing there. FYI: the 650-CSR airbox is embossed w KZ750, so it's really a 750 airbox.

Airbox ducts. The ducts are still available. Z1Enterprises.com carries them.

Although the airbox is 1 piece, it kind of has a front section & rear section.
The face of the front section with the duct holes is 12.5" W x 6.5 H.
Front to back the airbox is about 6.5 D.
The rear section of the airbox is about 7.5" W x 6.5 H x 4.5 D.

Just two things to say. Front brace and man watch that seat. Bump and slide onto that back tire and you will know what a real skid mark is! Clean the carbs REAL good. Get to all the orifices. You will thank yourself and consider an airbox. They work real well!!! How many things was that? I like the bike......
Take it from me cuz I found
If you leave it then somebody else is bound,
To find that treasure, that moment of pleasure,
When yours, it could have been.
