Just about have everything back together. Had it all powder coated / painted / replaced. All new gaskets, seals and bearings. Rebuilt calipers, master cylinders, new brake lines....all of it. Didn't tear down engine except for all of the covers. Decided to paint it satin black and went with powder coated black engine covers for the first time. It's not everybody's cup of tea, but I'm very happy with it.

Ran into a little trouble with the new aluminum cam end plugs. The casting was thicker on one side and the plugs wouldn't fit. I got some advice here on the forum and filed the outside of the head near the plugs. worked beautifully:

I did a rider quality resto on the switches. I had actually bought a new repro set but didn't like the paint quality.

Mocked up the oil cooler with several different mounting brackets. Settled on a simple U-shaped bracket.

and the finished product:

This is how it sits now. The exhaust is temporary. The Kerker racing pipe will be going back on....just wanted to test fire the engine and warm it up to change the oil. The Kerker blocks oil filter access and I didn't want to blue the pipes if the carb settings were way off.

By the way...I had a hiccup along the way with the "rebuilt" smoothbores I bought on eBay. After rebuilding them myself, they are finally running well. In addition to lots of mismatched parts, I found two slide brackets that were loose. The slides had a lot of vertical play and I don't think they were closing properly. I was having an very tough time synchronizing the carbs and getting them to idle. I soldered the brackets and everything appears to be great....fingers crossed.

Notice the screws they had used during the "rebuild"!

Yeah, found all kinds of goodies in there. Practically nothing matched. Different size orings on the drain plugs, different size springs, random screws throughout etc...
