I got a little tinker time in yesterday to work on the steering stops. I'm going to use an existing hole in the lower triple to mount the bung to that was most likely for a headlight mount. I'll drill the Centre of the bung and tap it, then the bolt will mount through the bottom of the triple. It puts the bung out further, but this way I don't have to drill and wreck the chrome. It's a little bulky, but I feel this is the best option for me in this case dealing with the triples I have.
The bung sits about an inch and a quarter away from the steering stem, so i'll either use a chunk of 3/8th bar and weld two bungs on, or use some 1/4 inch plate and cut triangular stops to weld in where i have the steeming stem clearned up a bit. YeS, it's a lititle bulky, but it's really the only opton i have to make this work. It wouldn't be called a cus to build if it weren't for things like this right? ;). I'm hoping to get this finished today along with my other welding :)

Tell me about it! I got more play time in the shop today, and finished up the steering stops :) they're just tacked in place right now, but they're fully functional. No more bars hitting the tank :) like I said, it's a little bulky, but this was the quickest and simplest way to do stuff. One more thing crossed off the list :)

Thanks guys! I decided that this would be the easiest, and least destructive thing, to do to get the stops finalized. I think it will blend in fairly well once it's all back together.

I was in the shop on Friday and one of the welders taught me to weld TIG and gave me some pointers. After some practice and getting used to how to run the gear, I gave it a shot and finished some welding off on the bike. I'll get pictures up soon. The welds on the bike aren't the prettiest, but they'll work. You can only learn by trying right? Hopefully I'll have everything I Ned to the paint shop for powder coating by Thursday this week :) if everything goes smoothly i'll have the bike road worthy by the independence day weekend :)

Thanks Leon! Once I got the amps right, things flowed pretty smoothly. Ut's really not too bad once you get a feel for it :) i'm hoping to have the welding finished tomorrow then get the frame to the shop on Wednesday or Thursday for powder coat :)

This is some practice welds from Sunday, the second time I welded with TIG. I think I'm getting the feel for it :)
