devon,
i heat it to a deep cherry red and then holding it on a j bent piece of tig wire which is 36" long or so i dunk it into a bucket of used engine oil that i have.

p.s.
that sprocket turned out very nice.

Thanks for the refresher, Leon. That will be the next thing to do once I'm back in the shop to finalize that bit.

After that, it's on to the foot rests and a few other smaller (but still fab related) things to finish it up.

Another quick question for anyone that's had to mount up new footrests (specifically off of a newer bike). I'm mounting up rearsets off of a '99 ninja 900 to the bike. I've seen a few posts on here where there was basically an adapter plate made that was welded to the frame that holds the rearset mounts. If I remember right, the flat plate has to be roughly as thick as the bolt I'm using is wide, correct? This would mean I should use around 3/8ths inch plate steel to weld to the frame, then have two holes drilled and tapped on the back side to hold the rearset, right?

Thanks in advance guys.

a good rule of thumb is that a bolt need as much thread engagement as it is in diameter.
so if your mounting with 3/8's bolts the plate needs to be 3/8's thick.

i'm getting ready to mount the rear sets on the kz750 i am doing the arm for and plan to use 3/8's thick material myself.

Sure does clear things up, Leon :) I really appreciate how helpful you are with everything that goes on with a build. Could you maybe post pics up when you get that part done?

Hopefully I'll be back in the shop this weekend to get the peg mounts done up.

Alright, so it's looking like I'll be in the shop this Thursday coming up to hopefully get the foot rest mounts cut and maybe welded into place. I'm using 3/8ths plate steel that I got from a local steel shop (for free too!) to mount the pegs to. Does anyone have pictures of their done? Leon- did you get those foot rests mounted on your 750 project?

Keeping my eye on this as Im also on the rearset stage of my CSR Project.I was thinking of going for the spacers option.Welding on 2 spacers (18mm O.D. / M8 internal thread/ about 25mm long) to mount the rearsets to but Im also curious about the plate idea. Looking forward to see how this turns out.
Good luck
P.S. Also want to see Leons pictures.

sorry guys the cold weather has me shut down for a lil longer.
i haven't been able to get any shop time,so i haven't been able to get the rearset mounts worked out for the 750.
but in lieu of any actual progress please allow me to high light the work of another forum member who actually done it the way i am thinking i may.

i present Arnold's rear set mounts,from Retro Fighter 2.0 (KZ 1100 -82 goes Z1 clone),

Thanks, Leon! I must have overlooked this thinking his mounts were part of the stock frame. He's a mastermind here... Thanks again!
