OK, here goes. After totaling my KZ650 earlier this year, of course right after I completely rebuilt it, I decided to seriously start working on my 82 ELR clone I have been tinkering with over for the last 15 yers.
I started with an 82 GPz750 frame and installed an 81 GPZ1100 engine, ZRX swingarm and shocks. Front end is also 81 GPZ1100.
Mark Wing did the paint, beautiful job I might add. I am almost done so here are the pics so far.

What I started with

Mockup

Engine final mount in frame

Engine covers after sandblast and painting.

Assembly

Mark is finishing up the tank and I hope to have it on the road by early next year

I'm liking the bike! The first picture scared me...I thought you were building a GPz trike. BTW...that looks like a 1982 GPz1100 motor, not a 1981 motor.

That first pic is of an 81 GPz1100 that I got the engine out of. The frame on that one was bent really bad so I just used the engine.

The bike pictured in the first photo is a 1982 year model...note the DFI injection emblem (the 1981 stated 'Fuel Injection')...the cam shaft cover is black on the ends (not painted on the 1981 model)...paint on the tail piece is silver over blue (1981 is blue over silver)...instrument pod is smaller (1981 instrument pod is large and boxy). I'll bet your carbs bolted right up to the head (the 1981 head would have had FI ports you would have had to block off). :)

the man knows his gpzs. I have a 81 and yes the head has the injector holes right between the cooling fins and where the boots for carbs mount up.

Cool project Baldy! I'm sure it will be a top notch bike once you are done. I'm so sorry to hear that your other bike was a total loss. How have you recovered from the crash? Any lingering injuries?

Thanks guys, I'm just about all healed up, the wrist is about 90 precent. Keep Astro away from he drools to much. Thanks for the info on the Gpz's. The frame's VIN indicated it's an 81 so I just presumed that is what the engine was. I am wondering if someone had did some swapping before I got hold of it. I found it under a tree about 10 years ago.
