I finally got all the bugs worked out on my ELR clone. I spent most of the summer waiting on parts and fixing irritating issues. I ended up doing the following

1. Carb were a nightmare. I started with the stock BS34 and spent a lot of wasted time and money trying to dial these in. Never could get them to work with the mods to the engine.
a. Went through 2 sets of BS34.
b. Waited 3 months for Wired Georges VM30 performance carbs. They worked pretty good a LOT better than the BS34, however I came across a brand new set of Mikuni RS36 for a really good price, couldn't pass on them. I LOVE these, they ran just about perfect right out of the box. I will be putting the VM30's on my 650 when I rebuild it.
2. Replaced head gasket three times due to an oil leak. I will NEVER EVER use a one piece head gasket EVER again on the 1000cc engines, every one of them leaked oil from the same spot. Finally got it to seal with the OEM style two piece head gaskets and o-rings. Very frustrating.
3. Due to removing the head so many times I stripped 4 of the cam cap bolts so while the head was off the last time I helicoiled all the cam cap bolts.
4. Replaced both fork seals due to leaks, that is after I rebuilt them the first time. I guess due to them sitting in my garage for so long after re-building them the seal dried out. They sat in my garaqe for about a year before I was able to put them to use.
5. Had to send the Koso RX1N gauge back to Koso, they sent me another one after mine tested bad.

I have been riding it for the last 2 weeks just about every day now and have about 300 miles on it. This thing is AWESOME the power is incredible. It is so scary fast and powerful. I look down at the speedo while shifting into third gear and it's already over 100 mph and that's without any effort at all or even close to full throttle. The front end comes up really easy, I can feel it getting light everytime I give it gas, WOW. From 65mph I just touch the throttle and it's at 80 in seconds. It has a lot of midrange power. This is my first hopped up liter class bike and WOW, if I die anytime soon it is going to be on this bike. It was worth all the waiting and frustration after getting all the problems worked out and riding it on it's first long ride without having to work on it.
Sorry about the long post but I am very excited about this thing finally working as it should.
This winter I will be rebuilding the 650 I totaled last year. Hopfully it will go a lot smoother than this project did.

So I guess we now know what BS stands for. lol
The two piece head gasket. 1075 kit? I know I had issues with my gasket leaking right away.
I have the stud kit in the cases for easy tear down and rebuild for the next time I go in to the motor.
Keep us posted on this bike.

I have used the BS34 carbs on other bikes with success just not one with head work, FYI they don't work with porting. I had those things on, off, apart and modifed so many times now I am expert on the BS34 carbs.
I used the GPz1100 engine so the big bore kit was the 1135cc and it came with the one piece head gasket. One of the fixes I thought would work were the APE studs, I used them also with the one piece to get the higher torque settings and it still leaked. I guess the OEM's knew what they were doing after all.

glad its all working now. theory says that 36's would be rather big, but if it works for you, theories can be wrong :)

planning to dyno it?

I would love to put this thing on a dyno but I don't have one anywhere near me so I have to rely on my butt dyno. It tells me this thing is scary fast. I would guess I am making close to 100 HP. I was concerned about the RS36 being to big but at the price I got them I took a gamble and they work fantastic.

Ok, understood on the 34's.
The engineers at Kawasaki know. End of story. Every mod comes at a price to longevity, reliabity or design. ;) I know I am not that talented of a designer that I could better their mousetrap.
