KZ1000 Bobber for a college student was created by kcornell6
Hey all!
Relatively new to these forums and there a great source of information so far. Have been getting a lot of great ideas that don't stop coming day after day. This is my first official thread for a complete rebuild/project/experimentation whatever you want to call it with a 96' KZ1000 I picked up for $550. I have some relatively good mechanical experience with the oldies rebuilding my own 81' GS850 and tearing down a 79' CX550. Looking foward to bobbing this KZ with some of your help.
Have a few plans for a future bobber including..
-Obviuosly hack the sub frame off/ short stocky fender in place
-Lower the rear by getting rid of shocks and using struts
-Lower seat height by cutting and re-welding in the frame where the seat lies/ re-position battery
-Get rid of the rats nest of wiring (Anyone know of any schematics and/or manuals laying around for the 96 1000??)
-Recreating this airbox/pod system (credits to kzbobber1)
-Would love to go spoked wheels but not sure how much hassle that'll bring along
-Find some new mufflers in the junk yard down the street
-Wrap the headers
-New seat
I'm sure more ideas will come along as I keep at it.
First day at its new home
I know the clubmans aren't on the traditional way, but this going to be my own unique ride.
And my GS just for fun

Finally was able to get some work done.
Wanted to clean out that rats nest and see what room I have to deal with once the battery is out. I really want to get rid of a lot of those wires. Cops sure needed a good amount it looks like...
Kinda stumbled upon this one. My Uncle here in AZ has a golf cart business so he's letting me use his shop. I was taking off the foot boards and stock shifter just to get something done. I went back to the "scrap" bin of old useless materials to see what was back there. Happen to be an extension which I believe was a control rod of some sort was the exact same diameter as the links used for the gear pedals. So went along to make my homemade foward control rods.
Stock
Threaded scrap rod I found
Just took a dye (not sure of specs now) and re-thread the rod to fit in the original adapter
Not totally finished but you get the idea
Since I'm making a homemade type of airbox made out of PVC/ 2 pods I was looking around for left over pipe around the shop. Lucky me again I found some that fit exactly to the air boots coming from the cards to "airbox". Will make another post one the finished product is together.

After playing with that scrap PVC I found myself at Lowes today. Spent $15 on the piping for this new airbox type of thing. Something I came across, even though it may not be necessary to install, was a valve. So at the opening, just put another pipe that has an adjustable valve. This will change the amount of air coming through is there's too much because of the new pods. Might not look all that great, but would sure get the job done without adjusting carbs. Could adjust the amount of air coming through if you go from a high elevation to low also if your carbs are set up for higher areas.
No cutting needed. Fit all together like it was made for the carbs

Well, finally got back to the shop. Got to fit the PVC airbox construction I made and hacked away a little at the frame. Tried looking at the wire but the cops accesories made it such a hassle
I ended up having to cut it down horizontally a little. Stuck out too much and would hit the frame. I was in a little rush so the PVC wasn't completely fitted in the boots correctly in the pic, but you get the idea.
Once I find some filters, You wont be able to see much of the innards.
Got chop happy
Do you guys think this would be ok to use to make a rigid frame? Its solid about 3/4 inch. Not sure what metal it is though. Not aluminum for sure. Bout 9.5in in length.

don't use solid stock for frame building.
get some of this, ships ups centrally located no minimums.
www.shapirosupply.com/index.php?main_pag...1a081546a353e1bc3e01
with some heat you can make the mild bends you will need to build your rearend.
it is your bike and you could weld it up outta drill bits and you won't find me hiding around the corner to keep you from getting hurt.be sure to think out your mods and remember if they aren't right the first time you can think up a better design while coalesce .
keep us posted,

Fun time hacking and grinding
Going to be using the original "triangle which was cut down a little. Will post what it looks like once tacked up. Hopefully going to be mocking up the leaf spring seat soon.

Nice. Definitely what im trying to go after with the lower seat. Might go look at the local salvage yard for 250 rebel shocks. Hopefully will be able to weld up the rest again soon.
