When you're scrutinizing the new tank don't get hung up if the badge is not exactly in the same position. These old kawasaki tanks vary quite a bit when you start looking at them closely. It's amazing how a-symmetrical most of them are. I had two identical kz750 tanks sitting next to each other and he tank badge on one was 3/4" lower on one side to the other

Thanks for advice DoctoRot, As long as the decals go on with the badge sitting in the centre I'll be happy, Had a panic last night with what Steve said and thought for a moment the shape of the tanks were completely different. Will know for sure when it arrives, I will post my findings for anyone else trying to replace a Z1100R tank with GPz1100 tank.

Thanks for that info Nebr_Rex, the tank with Rust is a project for another day, The GPzB1 tank is the hopeful replacement, looks to be in very good condiction from the photos when I brought it, just need to make small plates to weld up old fuel outlets ans make another plate to take my fuel tap with nuts welded on, then cut out a small slot to take the fuel tap filter and the two welded on nuts, then weld around this plate. I don't do welding so will take it to a specialist, but I will make the new fuel tap mount plate and two patches to block of holes. Just hope the welding guy is ok welding a fuel tank, I will wash it out before. thanks for advice.

Tank Arrived yesterday, it fitted to frame just like original, same shape, badge holes in same place too, all I have to do is blank off the 2 fuel outlets and put in new one in the correct position. the sender is the round type and I'm hoping it will work with the fuel gauge as I believe the GPz1100b1 had led gauge and Z1100R has got moving coil gauge.
Thanks to all for help. The old tank did leak in the end from the rust around badge area.

I had a similar problem with my GPZ1100 B1. I have two tanks, one I've left stock, the other I'm modifying. I removed the FI and replaced with Flat slide carbs. The original petcock location interfered with the carbs. what I did was remove the return valve on the opposite side, fit a 90 degree brass fitting. Then I install an inline valve and filter, works perfect. I milled the petcock fitting down and plugged with a brass cap. After seeing Dr G. MKII I might install a double pickup system like his.

Hi 577nitro, sounds like a good solution for your Flat Slide Carbs, I had thought of doing a similar thing but only had a Z1100R fuel tap, So I went along with repositioning the tap, Just picked up from the welders today, A neat job was done on the new fuel tap But blanking off the unrequired original outlets a bit rough, I may use filler over the top to make the round blanking plates disappear.

I am going through this right now, i am planning on making an ELR replica replica. One problem i have between my 1000J tank and an ELR type boxy tank, is the width between the rubber mounting points at the front. The ELR boxy type tanks, and i have one of those GPZ tanks, will fit according to one member here, if i cut down the mounting studs. Here are pics showing the difference with the width. Bike looks great...have fun!

Looks good! No one will see that... i would suggest a Pingel tap, i have one on my KZ1000, it is small and flows way more fuel, and has on and reserve. There are options for spigot placement, check them out. i have RS36 carbs on my J...lots of room...
