I used the MAIER side panels on mine and replaced all the rubber grommets. The "Moly" hardware with the Maier panels hold them in REAL snug. I like them.

New grommets are probably a good "trick"
Having said that, the side covers of the Z1A (had pods) flew off a few times and one got run over :ohmy:
and one (the right one) of the KZ900 covers wants to fly away - maybe I should take my own advice and replace the grommets :laugh:

I guess I have been lucky, never had a side cover blow off the bike in all the 32 years I've owned it. I did, however, replace those round rubber grommets that attach to the frame and through which the rubber cones on the back of the cover poke through, and never had to use wire or anything else to keep the cover secure.
