you can use the stem out of your old kz lower triple.
we machined out some aluminum bungs that had the right hourglass shape inside and then was able to mount the stock gauges.

so the answer to your question is yes you can reuse your original gauges.
but there is going to be some manner of machining/fabrication and that is going to have to happen to facilitate them.

To hijack an already hijacked thread

Leon, Clausing 5900 series lathe? I have one also, along with a few spare parts if you need anything. I converted mine to metric thread cutting.

So cool to see skilled craftsmen on a lathe and TIG doing quality work. There's nothing better than making something new fit something old using skills.

I just picked up a 1985 GPZ750 that I'd like to slot a newer USD front end onto and might need some help. Subscribed and would love to see or hear any updates on this project.

Any one ever know what happened to "IrishWill" He used to make CNC parts. He went to work way up North near the Yukon? I bought 3 of his offset bearing plates 4 years ago.
He sure was a good machinist.

How come you guys with skills and machines don't kill two birds with one stone?

1. Help some fellow guys out with their fork or other conversions.
2. Make a little money for helping them with the work? I'm sure any of us would be happy to pay for your skill and services.

It's so hard to find anyone local that knows anything about bike building AND that you can trust to get your stuff done correctly. Here on this forum we know we are dealing with skilled and dedicated bike guys who know what they are doing. I would gladly ship and pay money for some of you to do some of this work for my builds.

Leon (531blackbanshee) does help forum members with the projects a lot. He's done work for me plus at least 5-6 other members off the top of my head.

Members are not allowed to solicit services. As a member however I am allowed to recommend other members for said work. I personally would PM Black Banshee or Les Holt, (Les has not been on much lately but I can contact him for you and see if he has the time to machine something for you). If there is someone else and you like their work PM them. Then post pictures of the work and give them credit.

Most prople who want parts like triple clamps made have no idea of how much work is involved. I have made several nice sets, but after accounting for materials, tools, machine time, and labor I always end up working for less then $ 10 per hour. Building motorcycles is an expensive hobby, most people don't understand that.

thanks for the kind words doug, and jon.
80b4 is spot on.
especially when working with manual machines and 1 off's.
the time that goes into some of the setup gets exorbitant.
no matter what you charge someone.
bottom line is the job needs to be right when it's done.
because of safety and the fact that people are going to tell other people you did it.
i try to help everyone i can however i can .
like kaw-a-holic said if you see someone doing work you need done hit em up and see if they are interested in helping you.
i have my blog in my signature that has pictures of work i have done both kz and non kz related. .

Ok guys,

If the stock GPZ fork length is 31 inches (approx) and most sportbike front ends are 28-28.5 PLUS they run a smaller rim diamater and low profile tire (another 1 inch difference from the GPZ); how are guys getting away with running an updated front end that is essentially 3-4 inches shorter than the stock one without doing a custom drop down triple clamp? And can even a gull wing top triple clamp give you 3-4 extra inches?
