Should all the 5 wire 3 phase rectifiers be interchangeable between models?
This one is from a 76' KZ400 and I need to use it as a replacement on a 77' KZ650.
Will this happen for me?
As you can see, the top wires are the hot and ground, and the bottom 3 are yellows.
Will the left, middle and right yellows correspond to the ones from my KZ650 rectifier?

37 views, and not one of you have a clue? Amazing...
Maybe Mr. Mustard knows.
If your 3 phases from the 440 and your hot and ground were connected to the same respective pins on the 'black box' chances are real good that it will pass the 'smoke test'.

Whoops, sorry there. Colonel Mustard!

Colonel Mustard knows everything. haha
I just figured a 5 wire 3 phase for a 12v system should theoretically be the same...

That being said, from what little I know about this stuff, it should work. There might be a better idea than sticking a 30-year-old piece from a smaller bike in & hoping it'll work, though...
Lou has a diagram on his web site that shows how to build a brand-new one for $10-15. I was going to do that, but randomly replacing parts on my '76 KZ400 with parts from a '74 fixed my problem...
Cheers,

I'm sure he will answer the next time he is here, but in the meantime I'll say that yes it should work, they both are 3 phase alternators, both alternators have about the same output, and both have the same wiring.
Install it, test it, go riding

Anyhow, I had to pull the green/red wire for the neutral switch indicator off of the stock plug and put it into the open slot in the new plug.
Aside from that, everything went together like a charm, so I'm gonna hope that it will work when I give it some power this weekend.

Steell's right on as usual.
As for me, I can't even get my cable modem to work for more than 5 minutes. Comcast keeps coming over, but it never gets fixed. Their billing department works reliably, though.
