The Springfield Mile was created by bluej58
We had great weather last weekend and managed to put over 700 miles on the bikes in 3 days
Sunday we rode down to Springfield IL and caught the mile.
I have never been to a flat track race and my wife has never been to any big national race of any kind before.
The track is coined "The fastest mile in the world" the bikes hit the corners at over 130mph in the dirt with no front brake and a foot down:woohoo:
Those guys are amazing, the passing was mostly done in the turns with everyone bunched up.
The big race (GNC 1)was 25 laps and lead by favorite # 42 Bryan Smith on a 650 Ninja followed very closely by# 5 Kenny Coolbeth Jr on a 750 Harley, on the last lap between turns 3 and 4 Coolbeth passes Smith for the win but not before Smith gives it one more go at the lead but falls short by .009 seconds :pinch:
I don't care, it was a great race and we saw the pass
Third place went to # 65 Cory Texter on a 650 ninja
The GNC 2 race was a Kawasaki sweep
A lot of Harley fans there though and everyone was very pleasant to be around thankfully, the guy next to us had a custom built Sportser with a Ninja front end, sharp looking bike.
Not knowing what to do or where to go we decided to give the infield a try, the passes were only 20 bucks and you can bring in food and drink, plus they asked us if we wanted to ride on the track for another 10 bucks, HELL YEAH :woohoo:
We found lots of great viewing spots , the best was midway on the back stretch by the ambulances which thankfully did not see any business that day

The race is held 2 times a year at the track and we will be back for the next one in the Spring of 2017
