FSM says I need this tool to hold the alternator rotor while I turn the secondary shaft but loose... I already order the flywheel puller bolt, but do I need the rotor tool also? I can't find one anywhere... *bangs head*

You do need to hold it from spinning some how. You might be able to do so with a strap wrench.

No eBay APP ID and/or Cert ID defined in Kunena configurationI saw one of these tools on Ebay a few years back, and scooped it up. I have not seen one since. Seriously, someone needs to remake something like this, it doesn't look that difficult. If you find one, buy it! I have only seen something like this, but have no experience using it.

I used a Honda CB750 rear wheel spindle to force the rotor off, not sure of the thread but it came off easy enough. Locking the back wheel in gear will hold the rotor. Obvious, but never use a hammer on this!

I used some fine grinding paste to lap the crank nose taper/rotor, a good finishing touch.

Thanks for the info! I'm doing the starter clutch, bike is an 1980 kz750h1 ltd. I don't think I need to actually pull the rotor, I just need to prevent it from turning while I try to loosen the secondary shaft nut...

put it in 5th gear and have someone step on the rear brake. Or you can pull the clutch cover and hold the clutch basket with a clutch wrench. EBC makes those.

Take a look at the 2 links below. I believe they each contain information that should be helpful to you as you tackle the starter clutch. Ed

Can't thank you enough ed, this PDF is what I originally read, and makes no mention of any special tools. Just walls and broom handles lol.
