I'm thinking jb weld will hold up against gas (and ethanol ). I don't mind making a permanent bond on the plate itself. It definitely would be a pain to get tha stuff into the threaded area, but at this point I want to fix it and forget it. If I have to clean up a little squeeze out quickly with a rag, I will. If it will work, I think it's worth the extra effort to make sure it's cleaned up in there :)

This is from the JB Weld website:

"Q: Is J-B Weld resistant to water and/or gasoline?

A: When fully cured, J-B Weld is completely resistant to water, gasoline, and about every other petroleum product or automotive chemical. For wet-surface or submerged water or gasoline repairs, see our J-B Stik or Waterweld product information. "

From Wikipedia:

About alcohol

The JB Weld company advises "DO NOT" use alcohol to clean surfaces.[3] Denatured alcohol (ethanol) acts as a thinner for J-B WELD or epoxy, so it drips more or runs into cracks.[1] However, rubbing alcohol (isopropanol and water) should be avoided as a thinner, because of the larger proportions of water.[1]

i can tell u from experiance that JB Weld is NOT gas proof, when submerged. i have tried to use it to repair carb parts and it fails.

Yes. I already have the parts, yet I'm having issues with leakage. I don't want to go back to the vacuum petcock if I can stop the leak.

You shouldn't need any sealer on the gas tank; what are you trying to seal? The petcock (at least on mine) uses an oval rubber O-ring that prevents any leaks. Did you do some homemade mods to the tank? Ed

You got one of those Pingel Adapter plates that is flat with the 2 bolts and gasket, right?
So which joint is the problem, plate to tank or petcock to adapter?
