DON'T USE PERMATEX NO 1 ON GAS TANKS! IT IS COMPLETE CRAP THAT IT IS GAS RESISTANT. I let this stuff cure for THREE DAYS and this is about an hour after putting gas back in my tank...this is plain ridiculous for something that is supposed to be gas resistant!!!!!

I have found 1 really good sealant for Gas, and that is the Stag Joint Sealant. Bought some when I was Down Under, in a Tube. Posted it in Sham's Not Start Thread. Really good stuff, I Highly recommend it. Can be bought here in the USA.

I was walking out to go smoke a cigarette and smelled the gas inside the house. I knew at that point it was leaking, but I didn't expect to see the puddle! And I'm glad it didn't catch fire too! May have been saved by new wiring? LOL

What's leaking? a rot hole a split seam? the petcock threads?
tip that tank over and clean it off were you want to fix it. Get it dry with brake clean or acetone, or lacquer thinner etc. and smear this stuff on liberally. Let it dry the full lenght.

It's the petcock adapter plate. With the original gasket, it leaked a very small amount....to the point where I think it evaporated before it dripped. It was just slightly damp on the plate itself. I think I am going to run by lowes today to find a flat piece of rubber to make a gasket. I don't think I will ever use a chemical gasket on a fuel tank, or anything dealing with gas again!

I don't know how the JB Weld will do, but it sounds plausible. If it gets in where the threads for the petcock are, won't it be a pain to get it out though, for the petcock to seal? Did you have an O-ring on the petcock when you screwed it into the adapter plate? I'm just curious since I am going to do the same thing to mine. Maybe an O-ring with a bit of oil on it to make it seal and not get pinched when screwing it into the plate??? I'm thinking that plus the home made gasket (or the JB Weld) could be the ticket.
