Top speed cams ? was created by Mr. E
Could yall educated me on this cam :
470-x22a cam by megacycles?
I am currently running a set of megacycles 470 x 15a torque cams and I'm looking for more top end.
I'm going back to boneville this year for world of speed and we want more speed!!!
Current motor build is weisco 1105 pistons, 470-15a cams, vm29 smoothbore carbs, street port with stock valves. Murray x pipe, electric ignition - Ran 129.59 mph this year and we want more of course 😀
looking into big valves and more duration out of our cam.
does anyone have any experience with these cams or some suggestions?

Is that 129 top speed over a 1/4 mile or flat out ?
If it's flat out then that's not even reaching the potential for a stock motor so something else isn't quite right regardless of what cams are fitted..
I'd leave the current cams in and after checking everything is timed up and set up correctly etc i'd look at the obvious restriction of the stock valves and carbs which is killing the power.
You should go 31/37 on the valves with a good port job, enlarged throats and fit some slide carbs in the region of 33mm.
I would also dump the x pipe which favours the bottom end and fit a decent tuned 4-1 with 27 inch headers.
For comparison my daily rider Z1R runs wiseco 1075 10.25 comp, 31/37 valves, manzano ported head, 410 lift fast road engle cams ,tuned 4-1 pipe , 32mm suzuki katana oval bores and has been clocked touching 165mph.

That was wide open on the salt flats at 4700 ft elevation or something close. We had plenty of time, lots of time in 4th and 5th. Rpms well into and past 10k

What is the gearing your running? You want to have a big front sprocket and a small rear sprocket for top speed runs (17/32-530)
Like Zed said that seems a bit slow for 1100cc and he is correct with keeping the cams as is and finding out if its optimally tuned. If you can get some 31/37 valves in it and open up the ports more then you will probably see more gains from the head than a cam swap would give.
As far as that cam swap, if you can't increase the compression you will probably loose HP with the longer duration cams. You need to be running with as much cylinder pressure as possible regardless. If your under 170 PSI you may want to look at skimming the head and making sure the pistons are as high in the barrel as possible (zero deck) Most won't go racing with less than 200 PSI.
Most guys running +1100 would be running carbs at 33mm or over. A set of RS34's would help it out, instant bolt on HP. A lot of people are looking for 29 smooth bores, you could sell them or trade them for the flat slides if your so inclined.

And period-correct purists are nuts for those VM29s. You could sell them, pick up a set of RS34s, and come away with more horses and more dollars.
PS: Pretty bike you have there.
PPS: I just found out I'm moving back to SLC way sooner than I had imagined. I'll be looking out for you at Bonneville.

18/35 gearing -
I will be looking for rs34s and a head this spring !
I really wanted to keep the 29s and x pipes but I'm ok with having some street trim parts that I swap out 😉

Sounds like a plan.
You could still drop down a couple of teeth on the back sprocket.
Those cams don't have horrible numbers and you can always set them up at a high lobe center if you have safe piston to valve clearance.
Cams can be changed at any time but the head work is a lot more effort. I would suggest sending the head to someone with a flow bench (APE?) to verify flow rate. You can get a KZ head to flow pretty good numbers especially if you big valve it.
I know its a street bike (license plate) but the back seems jacked up a bit, are you a big guy? Just saying rider size has something to do with MPH. Lowering the bike and cutting weigh will help as well, just read the book "One Good Run" actually a lot of good info buried in it.

I am a bit bigger at 6'1 240lbs.
I have a suzuki gs1100 swing arm and 13" shocks to go with it. I love the height for when I'm commuting (i was riding this 20 miles each way for a while this summer to work - it was a blast!) or just out riding about. But we will need to get lower this next year. As we chase speed it does seem to come with some style and preference sacrifices ...I have been looking at heads, seems with the passing of Jay - ape is no longer offering all the head services. I have been keeping an eye on the marketplace.
The community arround the salt is great we had lots of advice given and one that caught me by suprise was how many people said don't stress over weight, it's the correlation to acceleration that makes weight savings important, but once you have momentum... It appeared less important to those guys idk 🤷♂️
I will look up that book this afternoon !

Nice machine, perhaps a small bullet fairing could cut more air.

Yeah, I was thinking you were on the larger side.
I am 5'6" 170 lbs, use to be 130 lbs 40 years ago! Power to weigh ratio just means your engine won't be as stressed.
I was just thinking about getting out of the wind, the lower it is the less air you catch. I come from drag racing so its the same just geared different and way more distance to run. Since your doing a dual duty machine then there will always be a compromise.
We always talked about taking my little bike to the salt, bench racing letting the liquor talk.

This last year, I built the bike and my dad was our rider. Checking off those dream boxes. He weights 80lbs less 😀 after some advice from the lowbrow and old bike barn guys we did pull the seat and duct taped the frame rails to create a cradle for him to get down more and flipped our handle bars. Some quick pics 📸
