Not sure why people need to redline their engines at all unless racing. Yes I have done it on occasion but anything after 7,500 to 8,500 isn't that much more exciting than just shifting around 7,500 or lower. I often find myself thinking on long rides or trips about how many revolutions and up/down cycles the engine has done over a 3,000 mile trip and it kinda blows my mind a bit.

Kawasaki factory Kz1000 Superbikes and Endurance bikes used 10,000RPM as their maximum recommended redline.

Thanks Dr. Gamma
I like that even better! And it's so easily accommodated.
Would I be correct to assume such a limit is intended to be temporary (while the engine is under load perhaps), or may it be considered safe to sustain while cruising?

I would reckon "cruising" at 10k would boil your oil

I always rode with a Cop or two just in case we got stopped for speeding. In all those years of doing those high speed runs we never saw a Cop on the road!!! Its funny when I would drive down that same road in a car it took almost a half hour to drive that same distance that we did in something around 10 minutes or so on the bikes!!!

Twenty years ago when I lived in the Chicago area we used to run some top end runs down US41 south of St. John IND on early Sunday mornings. The road is dead flat and straight for over 25 miles and only ONE stoplight!! I always geared my bikes to pull redline in top gear. My Kz1000 and my GSXR750RG would sit at redline for mile after mile down this road. We always turned off US41 onto the same side road to hit the backroad twisty's. Always stopped at the same gas station at where we turned off for a can of pop and a few cigarettes. You could always feel the heat rolling off the bike's motors and oil coolers, but they all fired right back up!!!!I would reckon "cruising" at 10k would boil your oil

I don't think Gamma does much cruising, all the bikes he has listed are race bikesThanks Dr. Gamma
