Your most recent picture appears to be a restamped on a 1979 kz1000 LTD. There should be a “0” after the dash before the actual number starts. They ran from 81k through 90k

Only the early Z1 with short number block had no raised edge so that would show that the 1000 is also a restamp but uses genuine numbers.
This is probably because the cases or complete engine are replacements or the bike was bought without an engine and the numbers were added to match the frames reg doc rather than muck about with the DVLA etc.
Your 650 is 100% restamped with numbers that do not match any Z650 model.
It's been made up to get the bike registered without the chance of the same number being on another bike and it being flagged up.

That letter is only confirming that it's a genuine engine number for a z1000 but not that the stamp is original. This is what I'm trying to explain As I'm told mine is restamped I'm comparing to this so it could be real

If it's a roller type the engine is pre 1980.
If it's Hyvo it's 1979 onwards.
There are other tell tale signs such as generator type etc.

In the USA the 1981-83 KZ650-CSR had a HyVo cam chain w rubber slipper guides, 3-phase alternator & electronic ignition. The earlier 650s had a roller cam chain w roller guides, 2-phase alternator & points ignition. A 2-phase has 2 yellow wires going to the voltage regulator, while the 3-phase has 3 yellow wires. It may be that some 1980 USA models had either/or on some of that stuff. not sure. 1980 was kind of a transition year from the 70s type of components on some models.
ps: for Euro models you can try the diagrams at Cmsnl.com.
