Unless it's different from a 650 one you don't need to remove head, cam cover or anying other than the lock bracket.
Undo the bracket retaining screw.
Slide out the old one and slide in the new one making sure the teeth are are aligned. Replace the bracket and screw. Job done.

the KZ750 is completely different. I found the answer. When I googled it, it led me right back to the forum: You have to pull it out prob with needle nose or something. See below:

You have to remove the valve cover the to push out the gear.
Don´t forget to reset the cam chain tensioner before you put the valve cover on or you overtighten and break the cam chain!

1. pulled out the gear with a vise needle nose
2. changed the seals
3. pushed it back in
4. job done

A friend whose Dad has my same bike, reached out to me today by phone and said you pull it out with needle nose and push it back in. He said he changed his two years ago. He said you dont have to take off the valve cover. His steps were:You have to remove the valve cover the to push out the gear.
