Valves squeaking ? was created by Provie97
Hey fellas. Hope everyone is well. I’ve got a question about the valves on my 1980 kz750 inline 4. When turning the engine over by hand while trying to make sure the advancer is working properly, I’m noticing a squeaking sound coming from where the valves would be. I got the bike non running and judging from how I received the bike they have never been adjusted. The odometer says it has 20,210 miles on it. This will be a first for me with calve adjustment so any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Try loosening the spark plugs, or remove them. This will relieve internal engine compression and allow the motor to rotate easier.
If you do remove them, make sure to cover each spark plug hole with a rag or something to prevent debris from getting into the engine cylinders. I take time to cover the opening around the cam chain with a rag between adjustment rotations as well.

I like the mice reply. I needed a giggle. But that makes since about it being dry. One of the carbs was leaking fuel into the engine a lot before I notice it and had to change filter and oil then let it air out for a while. I read on here that once you put the new filter and oil in you lay it down from side to side. Would that be right?

No! Just spin the engine a few times on the starter with the plugs out ( to help spin the motor faster and give the battery an easier time) to get the filter full and the oil circulated.I like the mice reply.
