Cam chain weird nose

Hello folks,

Got a quick question, I have just rebuilt a L2 1982 KZ750 motor, have used a different rocker cover and possibly cams from a shaft drive model, can’t remember the model number of the top of my head. The issue is when manually turning the engine a straining/whining sound comes from the engine. I also have fitted a manual chain tensioner. 

what I have checked,
1-checked valve clearances and tappet bucket movement. All normal. 
2-  took cams out, dropped chain of crankshaft and rotated, no abnormal sound. So think pistons/head is ok. 

Rebuilt the head then pushed down on chain as rocker chain guide would work, adjusted tensioner then rotated, sound returned. So I think it’s the chain when under load,

1- maybe a tight part of chain straining under tension?
2- Or maybe damaged chain?  or normal for a new chain?
3- could be rocker cover guide different size as from different model 
4- cams different size, in turn effecting tension / timing?

Hopefully below video works and you can hear what I mean. I really don’t want to tear it down again to change the chain but might be the answer.

I do not see a video, but my first guess would be that the tensioner is too tight.

Yea could well be the issue as have little experience in what is normal. I set timing put rocker on then tightened manual tensioner finger tight rotated 1/4 turn, finger tight, then rotated 1/4 turn.  Repeated process then locked off. 

 A straining/whining sound is normal on a fresh rebuilt engine. All parts need a heat or break in cycle to set the parts positions/tolerances/conditions.
In the video you can turn the crank without to collide the valves to the piston. Your finger tight cam chain tension is ok and need to re done after the break in.

Thanks for your advice, it does feel like there is a tight spot on the chain, could well be due to new chain and amalgamation of parts. Fingers crossed that it will bed in. 

Isn't the valve cover supposed to be put on before it is adjusted or engine damage will result?

Hmm, mine had floppy ears and a strange smile but I thought its NOSE was kinda cute...!!!      {sorry}...

Do you mean the rocker cover? Yes that needs to be on before you can adjust the tensioner. 

Technically valve cover, cam cover, cylinder head cover are correct. Rocker Cover not so much, no rocker arms in your specific engines. 

My 69 Ford F250 has rocker covers but I call them valve covers too.
