Oil flow

Looking for information on 79 KZ1000 MKII oil flow, I know the pressure, does anyone know what the volume of the stock oil pump?
Where can I find a diagram of the oil galley?

If you have the FSM there should be an "Engine Oil Flow Chart" and diagram in the "Maintenance-Engine" section. It describes the path the oil takes through the engine. Ed

I too would be interested in knowing the oil flow rate. I want to run an oil cooler. Liters per minute is critical.

If you want to run an oil cooler go ahead and fit one.
It's a common mod on these bikes with no issues.
 

The most reliable way to measure flow in liters/hour is to fill the crank case with 4 liters and put a hose barb fitting in place of the plug above and behind the point cover. Attach a rubber hose and put it in a pail, start the motor and run for 30 seconds exactly. Pour extracted oil into measuring cups to get volume. Use this number and multiply to get liters/hour.

If you run it for 30 seconds and only a small amount comes out you can run it another 30 seconds so it evens out to a minute (makes the math easier) I am only mentioning this because I have no idea how much will be expelled in that time period. Don't run the motor with no oil in it, overfilling for this test is no issue.

I think it's possible to calculate it.  I believe the pump is a positive displacement type.  I'm not sure which exact part to measure, but it you knew the volume of the chamber and the pump speed you should be able to calculate the flow rate.

I believe so.  Up to the point where the pressure relief valve opens.

The pressure relief valve just allows oil into the crankcase gallery directly when pressure is high.  High is a relative term, as the KZ1000 engine operates at low pressure and high volume.  This allows the crank to run on roller bearings instead of journals.  The KZ650 engine is different.  It runs at around 35 psi and uses journals.  The crank runs on a film of oil.

I don't know the flow rate for a 1000 engine but it's much higher than a 650 engine.  That said, I don't think it's necessary to know the flow rate in order to add a cooler.  Just buy one sized to sit on the front of the downtubes.
