I tried a couple of times before to go shim under yet could not get proper clearancs. Shim sizes ran out. When I got it done by shop they had to turn down my valves to get enough valve lash clearance. Pretty sure keeper being either round or square where it fits to valve stem. Got work done by Mike Law at Raceworks. Unless I am way out to lunch here I gotta go with what Raceworks told me. Just got head back two weeks ago.

The keepers have nothing to do with it. 900 style valves had square grooves so required square type keepers. 1000 / 1100s have round style. The style of keeper can not make the valve stem longer or shorter, so it can't have any bearing on the clearance.

Shim on top and shim on bottom both use a bucket and a shim. The sizes on the shim are the thickness in millimeters. a 2.50 shim is 2.5 mm thick. Doesn't matter if it is the large OD 29 mm shim on top style, or the 13 mm shim on bottom style the thickness is the same.
The distance from the "button" on the bucket to the top is the same, within a few thousandths sot or sob.

Therefore no valve modification is necessary to switch from one to the other.
I don't know how to make this any plainer than this. We have been making these parts and doing these heads since they were new.

The valve stem height must be within a certain range for the head to "shim" when it is assembled ( we sell gages for this). If your shop did a valve job and cut your seats, they made the stem height higher. This can result in not being able to shim the head for lack of clearance. It is then necessary to "tip the valve", that is grind the tip down enough to get it in the shim range. This is probably what your shop did to your head. IT HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH SHIM ON TOP OR SHIM ON BOTTOM.

Megacycle has a 410 lift cam, but with a smaller duration which I think improves midrange.  The description from the catalog:

Torque cam. Street/drag performance. Must use modified pistons and springs. Good mid-range and some added top-end with 10.25:1. Best cam for use with oversize valves.

The closet Web is maybe the 110 grind (395 lift and 284 duration).  www.webcamshafts.com/pages_vehicles/moto...e/kawasaki/1730.html
This one says:

Good mid and upper end performance for mild track. Requires High Compression Piston, and Performance Valve Spring Kit.

I've attached the Megacycle catalog page as a PDF.

The old .410" cams. Everyone used to say! Looking for some .410 cams. guys I knew did use shim on top with these. I used shim on top with same 3X cams in 3-4 different engines

Interesting read on the orange paper, about oil and break in lube with the old ZZDP. When I get that I will re-photo it and make it legible.
