Apart from the engine numbers and strenghtening rib the main difference of the MK2/ST cases is the trans cover bolt pattern which is different and that there are two location bosses for the gear selector.
One position is for use with the chain drive MK2 and the other for the shaft drive ST.

I have several restored bikes along with a 2006 Goldwing with a sidecar. My wife has a 2019 Suzuki DR 650 for on and off road.

The MK2 engine has 32 teeth on the cam sprockets. Pull the valve cover and count.

Presently - 1980 KZ1000B4 LTD w/mild ported head, Megacycle cams, 1015cc Wiseco, Falicon Supercrank, R&D undercut trans
In a former life - KZ-based dragbike - CrMo car tire chassis, 1395cc, Hahn Racecraft turbo system, VP C16, Orient Express 3-spd auto, 7.80's @ 165-170.

Agree with zed1015. And here's a pic showing the difference in the trans covers. The MkII is on the right. Note how the bottom edge dips down whereas the early KZ cover has a straight edge.
