Kz1000p headlight mounting without fairing was created by Popple
I am new to the forum so I apologize if this has been covered. Couldn't find anything in search. I have removed the fairing from my kz1000 and want to mount new headlights but not sure what to do. Any ideas? Thanks. -Thomas

This won't be much help. Many KZs have a headlight bracket bolted to the triple tree, usually with 2 attachment points on the underside of the upper triple clamp & 1 on the lower steering stem. So I would check to see what sort of attachment points you have & I would look into the headlight bracket from a 1000J, 1000K Ltd or 1000M CSR and maybe some other 81-on 1000/1100 models.
Others have fork ear headlight brackets & a smaller bracket at the bottom that bolts to the lower triple. I don't know if fork ears would be easier or harder. see the 83 1100 Ltd Shaft at partzilla & probably some other 80s models. The Ohio Cafe Racers site has a fork tube conversion chart, so you can see what other models have the same size upper fork tubes. to see if fork ears from whatever model will fit your tubes. The 1000P should be 38mm.

Aftermarket universal headlight mounts are plentiful and cheap or as Martin says, brackets from different models of a similar year should work.

I'll try to get pics up today or tomorrow. Thinking a fork bracket is best option. Maybe mount front blinkers on the ears where the fairing was attached.

That's a sweet bike. I am trying to keep mine as original as possible except for the fairing.

Fork tubes may fe too large. Call them for inside measurements.

Turn signals. Some fork ears & headlight brackets have holes for mounting the turn signals. 750E H-bracket for example. Another option is to install turn signal stems in place of the big headlight bolts, which is what I did. pic. the stems & bolts are both 10mm.

I ordered a 78 kz1000 headlight bracket from a fellow on eBay and it's one solid piece of kit and it worked a treat. Now to mount the turn signals through it like Martin suggests or around the lower tree which is also something I've seen that I like. The handlebar mount is not an option because I put in super bike bars and there is no room.
Next is to stop saying kit when I mean parts and it worked a treat when I mean it worked great.
