A guy building a hardtail (who admits to having no skills) putting down café bikes. Oh the irony...

The video in the original post... I whole heartedly agree... I talked to a guy who ruined a perfectly working bike and couldn't get it road worthy after spending a year hacking it up... I asked him "if you wanted a different bike, why'd you buy that one?"

I heard some geezer from Britain tell me once that the term "cafe racer" originated on the Isle of Man or somewhere like that, and it was in reference to people who bought bikes made for racing in grand prix road races, only to not actually race them. Instead, they parked them at cafes and pretended to be racers. According to him, the term started out as a pejorative for posers and has now been unironically adopted by posers posing as posers.

Close but no banana. The term Café racer originated at the ACE Café on the north circular in London. Back in the 50's guys bought stock bikes, modified them and raced from the Ace Café up the North Circular to the next Junction and back again. The last one back had to buy the teas. Obviously they modified them with the race bikes of the day in mind.

TT already existed in the UK, as in Isle of Man TT (Tourist Trophy). That was PP Racing here, as in Pub to Pub.
