Hi All I am new to the forum ( i know big eye roll for the newbie ) :laugh:
I just bought a 2000 KZ1000P and am loving it. I am looking to turn this into my daily rider with a 2up seat keeping all the fairings and repainting. I am having trouble finding relevant info for some of the mods I am looking forward to doing though. I have stumbled though this forum and have found little data that I need.
My two big things i would like to start with are
- rear shocks: what length spring rate etc. I cant find this info anywhere, if anyone has info on aftermarket shocks they have used that may be helpful too, but info on the stock shocks would be best.
- Exhaust: I am interested in a 4 into 1, I have read that anything for the J motor basically newer than 1982 will work, but what have others used, and did they have any interference with crash bars mounting etc.
I am used to working with older bikes like late 70's early 80's and was hoping that for a 2000 there would be more info available, but i guess the P model didn't get a lot of aftermarket attention, unless there is some gem of a site I have yet to find that lists compatible accessories. I wish there was a dedicated forum or website for the police specific models and customization.

Welcome. I'd ditch or modify that front fender to lose unsprung weight. I suspect e MKII saddle seat would fit the contour of the frame. I';d put a aftermarket Z1/KZ tail on it too to finish it off.

Thanks for the info Steve! I might go for a smaller bobbed fender at some point. I would like to keep a full fender in the rear but maybe something that fills out that space better up to the side rails. There is a lot of gap going on back there. I will look into that seat though.

Welcome to the Forum.
Can't help you with the rear shocks. On the exhaust the problem is going to be keeping the bags and racks. If you plan on ditching those then I assume you can fit almost any exhaust you want. But then why would you? The stock is heavy but it's quiet. After years of loud and angry, I appreciate a quiet stock exhaust.
No other cop bike sites that I know of but there are several outstanding builds on this forum.
