Torqued the head and found all the nuts were still nice and snug. Score one for OEM gaskets. I've found some aftermarket gaskets tend to compression more than OEM and the torque falls off pretty fast.
Next I checked the valve clearances and found one valve was really tight. Not sure what happened there but very glad I checked. Went to work swapping out the shim and after removing the ignition cover to turn over the engine I found oil inside. Was fearing the worst but (thankfully) found it was only the oil pressure sensor that was leaking. I have a spare so took care of that too.
Moral of the story is to do your maintenance, don't just wait for crap to break.

Truer words were never written! A little while back when I was lubing my drive chain I found the clip from the master link was missing. I can't image why unless if fractured and fell off. No harm done since I found the problem before the master link side plate came off, but if I hadn't found it when I did it might have turned ugly. Maintenance is a good thing. Ed

I've got a Z1B in for a top end rebuild - so many other non engine related service issues with it.
So many loose bolts...
Cush drive rubbers knackered.
rear brake seized (bike should go a lot better now just by fixing this !)
advance retard seized
cables all needed oiling
corroded electrical contacts
rear tyre worn out
etc etc
